GLOCK FM 81 Field Knife 6.5" Fixed Blade, Carbon Steel Sawback Clip Point, Black Polymer Handle w/Sheath - KB17281

First off, this is a beater. It's solidly a general service utility / combat / bayonet "knife" for the military. It's covered in gun oil / grease that almost smells like cosmoline when you get it -- it's not a "blotchy" paint job like one 1-* "reviewer" stated. Probably good he sent it back, because if you cannot tell a difference between blotchy paint and gun oil / grease... you got to stick to picking up mushrooms. 'nuff said. Next, the blade will not be razor sharp from the factory, because it's a hybrid cold weapon intended to function for three tasks: 1) as a utility knife, 2) as a combat knife, and 3) as a bayonet attached to the StG77 automatic rifle. This is a tool to be used hard, not admired on a shelf. So, yes, with hybrids you'll NEVER get ALL of the intended functions on a PERFECT level, but I dare to say this blade pulls off all of them rather commendably. The sheath? I love it. I have my old unit's knife that beats the snot out of this knife as a combat, utility, and survival knife, but it also certainly costs five+ times as much as this one. I do appreciate that my service knife comes out of its leather sheath silently, though... so you don't hear it, but you actually *feel* it coming out. This one isn't 100% silent, but this sheath isn't too shabby when you practice how to use it properly and one-handed. If you cannot figure this out then stick to picking up mushrooms... I dare to say that Glock made a perfect product for its intended purposes and, especially, for the price. This is a slam dunk for any rank and file infantryman or a civilian; extremely versatile, durable, and budget friendly. The latter gets you into mil contracts. Oh, the surface treatment comes off when you actually use it? Big deal. It's a carbon steel blade and the treatment is to subdue the glare of bare steel, not to make it rust proof. It comes covered in gun oil / grease for a reason and you'll have to treat it with oil / grease periodically or it'll rust. That's the trade off for having a carbon steel blade in general, but it'll also take a bunch of punishment blade-wise and hold an edge. Speaking of edge, this is a hard blade, so it's not as easy / quick to sharpen as some fake steel "blades", but it'll hold pretty nicely under quite a bit of use if you need more sharpness than what it comes with. Let's say it's not a scalpel (cause it's not supposed to be), but it's not dull one either. It's long and nimble enough for some decent knife work and have plenty of edge to get the job done. Also, the thickness of the blade is very adequate should you need to penetrate an object with a considerable force (yeah, after all, this is designed to work as a bayonet, too!). If you leave behind the wants to have the best blade in the world for $30 shipped, you'll be quite satisfied with what Glock provides you. If you have delusions that you'll get a custom combat knife of a specialized unit soldiers for that much money, you need to talk to somebody rather than a blade...

1st I didn't know Glock made a knife until I ran upon it here, so I had to get one and see what it's all about, I'm a knife collector and this blade has solid weight to it. It appears to have a full tang but without seeing any handle screws it's hard to tell, the molded handle is slippery when it gets wet, so I put golf handle heat shrink on it and took care of that issue, the weight balanced at the base of the handle above the quillon, the blade is thick and has the same coating as their hand guns, the sheath is plastic and works left or right handed, the lock to hold the knife in the case is solid and it has a belt loop that locks as well so it does not come off your belt.

When I saw this knife I was impressed that it came from a reputable manufacturer (who hasn't heard of GLOCK?) and yet was offered at a very affordable price point. I read or listened to any number of reviews online, and, by and large, the reviews are positive. I was surprised when some complained that it wasn't sharp 'out of the box'. Mine is very sharp. I purchased it, in part, as a field knife that was durable, but affordable, and not something I would avoid actually using in the woods because of the price and value. While some will say this is not the top survival knife out there, I would be comfortable if it was the only one I had. The saw back gives you an extra 'tool' that not all field or survival knives may possess. While relatively light in weight, it still feels substantial and well balanced in your hand (which is to be expected since it is designed, I understand, for throwing). The injection molded grip is comfortable. The sheath offers a secure hold and a no-nonsense practicality, including a drainage hole and generous belt loop. One of the pictures I saw had it secured in a MOLLE strap system on a vest or backpack. Since it is not a very wide knife, it just might work. I checked it out on my tactical backpack and it seems like it would be a tight fit, but I think I could make it work. Overall, a great value for the money, with not only the reputation of GLOCK, but also the assurance that this is a military-issued knife (Austrian army, among several others), and it is Austrian made. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Impeccable blade, lasts basically forever and holds a useable edge a long time. Main edge sharpens easily with my pocket sharpener and a little downtime. Once you get the knack for the release this thing is quick to draw but won't fall out. Bottle opener is a fun addition. You can also learn to throw this and it has decent heft. Easy to grip handle and thick enough blade to handle using as an axe in a pinch. Balance favors near the middle of the blade so it will lean out of your hand if you don't hold on. I love using this thing for all-purpose cutting, whittling, roots when I'm digging, fetching small branches and tinders, getting bark off, or even scraping mud off my boots. Next, I have to learn to balance the tip on my finger like Bayou Billy.

I swear this thing is indestructible. I have fought off 3 lions, six griffins, and four Minotaurs with it so far. All wearing armor. OK, maybe I’m exaggerating. But I have taken it camping several times and tested it well beyond its limits and it is a great knife. Especially for the price. I have some very expensive K bar knives but for the price of those I could have a dozen of these and get more functionality. Just buy a couple for your toolbox and your car and your shed and I promise you, you will be happy with them. It’s like the timex of knives. Takes a licking and keeps on sticking.

Seems well made and balanced. Has some plastic composite handle and sheath. The knife clicks into the sheath to keep it secured and the belt loop on the sheath can open up to easily attach to a belt without pulling through. The only thing they skimped out on is giving it a descent sharpening. I noticed it was razor sharp at the base of the blade, but dulled out towards the tip.

We've come to expect the best from Glock's products, and this fixed blade field knife is no exception. High quality polymer plastic for the handle and sheath, it fits tightly when stored and has a clip for the waistband. The blade is sharp and high quality metal. I'm sure it will last me a lifetime... just like my G19.

This is the best bottle cap lifter I have ever operated. The saw teeth are excellent and the criss-cross geometry makes slippage less likely when lifting on the cap. The knife edge is sharp and the clip point end is pointy. It smells strongly of gun oil but I am cool with it. As a weapon it would be excellent for self-defense in either forward or reverse blade styles but with only a regular thumb over fingers grip due to the placement of the bottle cap lifter protecting the hand. The pommel makes a decent hammer similar to a bayonet or kabar fighting knife. If the pommel opens up I would like to see a video. It may make a decent spear for a survival situation if the handle is hollow idk. The scabbard is awesome and fits a utility belt with some thumb work and comes off with even greater effort. Once it is on a belt keep it on there or get a belt devoted to the knife. The bottom has a lanyard hole for use as a neck knife or securing to the knee with paracord. The hilt clip is secure and takes some effort to push a digit in deep enough to make it open which is exactly what your wife said last night but in a different context other than operating something long, hard, beautiful, manly, and sharp with one hand in public while holding a beer in the other hand because you are trying to impress your friends with your package which is a kick ass gun oil smelling field knife by Gloc. For a faster draw a custom sheath is needed but this is a bottle cap lifter, not a trench fighting kabar. I will be getting more to give out to girlfriends who drink beer and smoke pot. I would get zombie green and various pink patterns if available for cosplay and parties. Other places offer a cheap ass knock off of this knife. Wearing one in public would indicate that you are too cheapskate to afford letting go of the few extra dollars to buy a Gloc and that you drink piss water beer and other weak drinks like a pretend man. I have not done so yet but the knife would be excellent for gardening such as for moving a plant to a larger pot or a place in a field. For spot tilling and trench digging the saw teeth can cut roots. It is not a shovel so only use it for small cutting, puncturing, and root cutting jobs. A hand trowel and a Gloc knife would be excellent everyday use tools for a small garden setup.

Very good knife , Excellent quality, price was fair , thick blade is great for rugged jobs , it's not to heavy and not to light ,the blade is around 6.5 inches,the knife is 11.4 inches in total, the case isn't the greatest however it has a drain hole at the bottom to let water out.Good buy in my eyes , THUMBS UP !!!!!!!!

As the title says, it is made by Glock. Perfection is their moto and this knife lives up to the hype. Sharp out of the package and made in Austria. Glock started making knives before they made firearms. The quality is second to none.

Sharpe out of the box. Glock quality. Perfect field knife for medium sized tasks such as breaking down small logs into kindling, etc.
