With water present a circuit closes. The problem is any splash onto the probes would set it off. I replaced the probes with a single float switch. With proper placement of this float now I get an alarm if the main pump fails just prior to the backup pump kicking on. Review: Does not last - This float switch lasted 2 months and then failed. Difficult to determine how it failed but it could be that water got into the reed switch. There was no load on it because it was wired to a dry contact.
