I have trusted this brand for 25 years. The 5HTP is a key part of my sleep routine, consistently helping me without any issues the next day if I don't take too much. Some people have no problems with that dose. I find that 5HP improves my sleep, but timing, dosage, and food intake are important. I take it with food to avoid stomach problems, and I have none, especially taking a low 50mg; only one medication I can think of in my sleep protocol, trazodone, has caused stomach issues on an empty stomach. I make sure to take it earlier than bedtime so that the effects of all the sleep medication I use will wear off when rising; if not left in the mouth for a long period, there’s no taste, and I don't think in 25 years I have ever tasted it. Also. The capsules are easy for me to swallow with a gulp of my favorite electrolytes. I used to take tablets, and those are smaller, but I have found this brand and dosage are the best price for their quality. I don't buy brands that aren't established with a track record like NOW has. So, I find the value solid especially since I trust in the brand. While some may take higher doses for sleep, calmness, etc, I only use 50mg because I rely on multiple supplements for long-term insomnia, alongside a couple of prescriptions. I cannot sleep without medication, basically at all. My sleep protocol was assisted by an expert in the field of pain and fatigue and has made a significant difference in my sleep. With improved sleep comes less pain, fatigue, and better focus. I'm grateful to NOW for their quality and consistency. No odor I have ever noticed, unlike, say, valerian, which has never agreed with me. Sweet dreams.

My therapist recommended me this to take for my anxiety and sleep problems, and I’d say it worked but I couldn’t really tell sometimes maybe it works differently with everyone but my stomach didn’t hurt after taking it as long as I ate before I didn’t try it without eating but easy to swallow and it worked I think.

I began using this product simultaneously with Biotech Nutritions Dopa Mucuna. I take 100mg in the morning to hit peak blood level, then maintain with another 50mg at 1:30pm, 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Arrived at dosing schedule after researching 5-HTP metabolic action, half-life etc. Results were outstanding almost from the first day. Much lighter state of mind, much lighter mood. Like a heavy blanket being lifted. Also a natural-feeling calmness, not like being doped or numbed. It has been many weeks now and the positive effects have not faded. Everyone's internal chemistry is different, but for me this product has brought a huge improvement in quality of mental and emotional life.

This works in improving my mood. I don’t take this one every day, but the days I do take it, I notice a big difference. It’s kind of like this nice slight uplifting calm. Works for minor depression. I’ve tested out different times to take this and for me when I wake up an hour to early in the morning I’ll usually take this. It helps me drift back to sleep or relax in bed a bit longer, then when my eyes open an hour later, I feel incredibly happy and ready to seize the day. I will also take it an hour before eating or an hour after at least. Seems to be more noticeably effective when I haven’t eaten. The only side effect I’ve noticed is it may decrease sex drive a bit. I’ll usually take something for that if I’m going to...you know. Or I won’t take this. Many anti-depressants whether prescribed or not seem to affect sex drive for some bizarre reason unfortunately. If you’re taking anti-depressants, you shouldn’t take this though as it basically does the same thing. And if you take it together it could increase your chances for side effects. Too much serotonin. Choose one or the other. This is good to try if you’re looking for an alternative to prescribed medication.

5-HTP is working great for me. I had been feeling down for a few years and had a pretty negative outlook on life in general. I knew that mentality wasn't me but didn't know what to do about it. Also, it seemed like no matter how much I wanted to get something done I just had zero motivation or desire to do it. I went to the the doctor almost three years ago and was prescribed an antidepressant. I took it for over three months with no change other than just not caring as much so I weaned myself off of it. If you have ever done that you know how rough it is. Two months ago I went to another doctor for a heart issue that was brought on by stress. After blood work i was told i was low on vitamin D and my doc recommended 5-HTP and a 5000IU D vitamin to take daily. That evening I ordered this bottle. All I can say is wow! After two weeks I started feeling a little better. Everyday after that things just seemed a little brighter. Things are great now. I feel like my old self again. After over three years of being depressed it is a huge change for me to be out of that slump. I wish I had discovered this a long time ago and not spent so many years like I did. A month ago I added a Super B Complex vitamin to my diet which gave me a ton of energy along with the good mood and desire to do things. Life is good. I'm not saying this will work the same for everyone but I would recommend you give it a try. Ask your doctor what dose to take and try it for a month. My doc told me to start taking 50 mg a day for 2weeks then up it to 100. Good luck!
