Best Blades I’ve Used—Incredibly Close, No Nicks
These MERKUR blades are, hands down, the best I’ve used. They deliver an impressively close shave with virtually no nicks or irritation, and the consistency from blade to blade has been excellent. Like most double‑edge blades, the sharpness drops off after the first use. For me, that isn’t a deal‑breaker—I only need to clean up parts of my face and neck a few times a week to keep things tidy—but it’s worth noting if you expect multiple shaves per blade. I’ve tried several other brands, and none have matched MERKUR for closeness, smoothness, and how gently they treat the skin when used with reasonable technique. As long as I stay within the number of passes I know my skin can handle, the results are reliably top‑tier. If you want a blade that prioritizes a close, comfortable shave over everything else, these are the ones to get.

An excellent blade
What separates Merkur and other similar blades such as Balzano is that these blades are more substantial. Consequently, when shaving the sensation is more as one gets when using a straight razor. The positive difference in feel when using an adjustable razor is considerable. The Merkur blade easily lasts for several shaves....even more depending upon how thick the growth is. Proper preparation using an excellent soap well applied is important, and consider using one of the pre shaves such as Proraso.

Good quality
Fantastic, sharp blades. My husband’s favorite.

It’s a good shave but irritated my skin
I feel bad taking a star off because they are an excellent razor, however they constantly irritated my skin and the price per razor is quite high compared to others. If you have a sensitive face like me, I swapped to persona razors and have had no issues since. Much cheaper and for a 100 pack. I’m sure these are good for people with less sensitive skin, but they’re still pricey per razor.

The Best Blades in 50 Years of Shaving
I've been shaving for about 50 years. I've gone from safety razor to dual / triple bladed things you can buy in the grocery store. My son pushed me to go back to the "old time" way of shaving. He bought me a whole shaving set up (Amazon) including Merkur Double Edge Blades. These things leave my face feeling like I'm a little kid. Smooth, no nicks or cuts & easy to use. I couldn't ask for more.

Not the quality Merkur is traditionally known for
Merkur blades have been my favorite go to for the past fifteen years. The German Merkur blades that I am used to were not the sharpest blades, but they were sharp enough and did not lose their edge very quickly. They were consistently smooth, shave after shave, for at least a week. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about these Czech made Merkurs. The first shave I got from these blades was fair. The blade was sharper than I remembered the German Merkurs to be, but smooth enough. However, the shave was not that great and it was only downhill from there. My second shave was rough. The blades do not keep their edge, and they are not as consistent as the old Merkur blades. I also noticed that the price has gone up even though the quality has gone down. I have no problem with Merkur outsourcing to the Czech Republic, their neighbor to the east. However, they apparently have not set forth good quality control standards with this transition. I approached the blades with an open mind but was very disappointed.

A decent value razor blade
Good double edged razors. I find I can get a longer shave out of these than other brands - I expected these razors to be higher quality in my mind, so hopefully that isn't confirmation bias. But it certainly seems like a slightly higher quality blade with more durability. I've never had a nick from one of these blades that wasn't kind of my own fault (going to fast and jabbing, etc.). One thing I will point out: Merkur is a well known German brand and they love to plaster SOLIGEN all over their website. These razors blades are made in the Czech Republic. I'm not a big fan of dishonesty in branding/marketing. Just pointing that out in case you case.
