Review: Noice - This is a really good choice if you want to get into the freaky subculture of straight-razor shaving. I mean, what kind of guy uses a single, naked sharp blade on his throat and face in this era of space-age 30-blade cartridge razors that will walk your dog for you? The kind of guy who doesn't want to get a second mortgage to buy razor blades and summon his often subdued bada$$ery, because, why not? If you've had a lot of practice with a DE razor, you won't have any problems with this razor, and you can still use all those DE blades you've been stockpiling for the last year or so. You just have to be a little more patient and slow, but you've already got the blade angle down, so there's nothing to it. It does shave even closer than the DE, I think. I swap back and forth between my Merkur Barber Pole and this razor. Now, if you want to jump from the Mach-5 or whatever they're called these days, you might want to rethink that decision or get a DE to practice with for a while. If you don't have blade angle and technique down, you're going to open up an artery and ruin your wife's monogrammed towels. Just sayin'. This is both an art and a skill that you don't learn overnight. But, if you want to save a lot of money and get an amazing shave, this is a good option. It might be a step toward getting really hardcore and entering the world of the traditional straight razor, which is a whole new level of manliness that I won't be getting to anytime soon. Review: Excellent Tool - As much as I want to love and shave with straight blade razors (I own several), the contours, creases and every-which-way growth on my neck (and I'm sure my skill level) don't allow it to be a real option for me, although the shorter blade of the shavette makes it easier than the standard cut-throat razor. What I do love about this is that it allows precise control (down to the individual hair) for shaving and trimming around my mustache and goatee. Whether you use a DE or one of the multi blade razors (I find the DE gives a far superior shave) they don't make it easy to maintain a precise line. I use this every couple of days to shave those pesky little hairs that make your facial hair line look messy. The compact size and short blade length make it very easy to control no matter what angle you need and, since you can see the cutting edge, it eliminates the problem of going too far with your shaving razor. Stainless construction make it trouble-free to clean and maintain.

Best shavette I've had the pleasure of shaving with.
Got this after another frustrating cut with my Luxor brand shavette. I've also had a 'Magic' brand shavette that is also the same old black plastic. I'd always occasionally get a pretty big cut using those type of razors. For months I'd get them (when I first started with them I got a rather large cut on my chin. The styptic pencil actually made it scar up pretty badly. I still have that scar many many months later. I'd probably have to get it surgically removed now. Be careful with those styptic pencils. I don't use them anymore). Worrying that there was maybe something wrong with my Shark disposable blades I decided to bite the bullet and buy a decent shavette. I went with the best. In the past couple of months that I've been using this I've only gotten very tiny nicks a couple of times (due to acne on my skin). Feels very different than those cheap shavettes too. So very smooth. I haven't made my way to straight razors yet, but this is probably as close as you'll get. My only problem is that on the handle there are a couple of seams from where the metal is bent together. Purely aesthetics , but I wish for the price they'd worry more about making it look as sleek as it shaves for the price you pay for it.(BTW, it does give an excellently perfectly smooth shave in the right hands with the right soap and blades). I would give this a 4.5, but you can't really do that. I completely recommend this one above all others. Do yourself the favour and save yourself from those cheap shavettes.

It's a working shavette, worth trying.
I won't make this a review about wet-shaving. If you're looking into this item then you should already know that much. I will instead make a few points. 1) This is the best quality shavette that I have used or seen used. I compared it to most other offerings on the market, and the fit/finish here is just better. 2) it takes blades other than normal DE blades, but you do have to buy inserts and the other blades are hard to find so I've never tried it. 3) I used this every other day or so for 2 years, and never had any issues. I changed blades every couple shaves, and have yet to notice any fatigue in the plastic blade holder. I do have a couple issues though: 1) These are very light weight, so you will get a bit more "bounce" which causes more irritation. This seems to be normal for shavettes. 2) The way that the blade is held means that getting a less aggressive angle on the blade can be difficult. I wish the plastic would taper down rather than being rounded.

This is worth the price.
This razor is great. I enjoy the fact that it is sturdy. It is small and you do not have to handle the razor very much. I use it daily as a professional Master Barber and it has impressed me with its design and efficiency. I have used less expensive brands and more expensive brands and this is the best one by far in my 19 years experience. It is very difficult as a professional to cut someone with this razor.

Middle of the road shavette
Definitely an okay shavette, but not especially impressive. It does work pretty okay, and the way the tail scoops around is pretty handy. Aside from that though, I'm not completely thrilled with it. I don't really like the way the plastic blade holder works: pulling it out and cracking it open can be tricky, and "tricky" isn't a word I like to use when I'm handling razor blades. The razor as a whole is also a little lighter than I would like, especially around the blade itself. It's very difficult to get any significant cut out of just the weight of the blade/blade holder, I found that I pretty much had to apply some slight pressure of my own. Ultimately I ended up finally just buying the Feather Artist Club, which I kind of wish I'd done in the first place. That's still not perfect, but I've been much happier with it.

Great shaver - no more ingrown hairs
Great shaver for beginners new to shaving with a straight razor. I've used cartridge razors and high end electric shavers for the past 15 years and always got horrible razor burn and ingrown hairs on my neck. I've been using this razor now for 2 months and once I got used to it and got past the nicks and cuts, I've had zero ingrown hairs or irritation at all as long as I shave with the grain. Highly recommended.

PRODUCT FAILURE
The product was shipped without; branding, itemization and instructions. It came packaged; (*) In a low cost vinyl case, (*) With a double edge blade and a (*) Clear, long plastic insert. The longer, half-blade which fits into the insert, was not included. The blade is first placed into a thin, fragile, plastic sleeve. Which is then slid into a metal handle. The blade is held in place, in the same way that a stack of papers are held in place by a plastic spline. By compression. In this case the plastic insert slides into the spline, or handle, expanding it, just like the spline expands when paper is slid into it. This is a passive locking system, as opposed to an active or mechanical lock. Similar to locking the front door by moving the bed next to it, instead of using a dead bolt. Without doubt; this is the lowest cost, least durable design possible. Clearly, Dovo is willing to risk an otherwise good reputation with a careless design for the shavette market. The gizmo may work; until the insert breaks or the divot pops. I will return it and not consider another Dovo product. But do not follow my lead. My decision is based on principles not application. You might get lucky with it, or not mind purchasing extra inserts. You may not care if the instructions and itemization are missing or if plastic inserts are missing. My decision is based on; mechanical engineering and manufacturing experience, product design expertfise and as a founder of several firms. Lord knows, my career includes plenty of blunders, but never at every step. The only way for a product such as this to reach the market is to pass through multiple checkpoints, including; concept, drafting, prototype, trial, pilot run, marketing, packaging and production. How is it possible that a product with this level of design and material flaw, ships; without packaging, presentation and product inserts? Yikes! With the highest price point in the shavette space. Really? Without someone in authority who objects? OMG! I will return this product because the design bakes in obsolesce and fails common sense. No other Dovo products will be considered because management has failed, at every possible level. Which is rare, even for products which have been outsourced. PS. The blade which comes with the product is too short; it sits below the edge of the housing. On the plus side, you will always get a smooth shave with this razor and no cuts, guaranteed. The downside is that after shaving with this razor, you will need to shave again with a razor that works.
