Down by the Sea with Brush and Pen: Draw and Paint Beautiful Coastal Scenes

I was really impressed by this book (in comparison to other similar books), since it gives you really clear and simple instructions on how to paint nice beach landscapes and details with watercolors. Everything is simply and clearly explained (colors and color mixes, brush and pen strokes, values, composition etc.) and one can follow it easily and create its own beautiful artwork. I was very happy I got it and helped me out very much in my painting. Great!

I love Claudia Nice books, so much attention to detail, so simple and easy to follow, and really down-to-earth explainations. Her work is absolutely beautiful. Great book for the novice and advanced artists. All books that I've ordered on Amazon.com have been quality and extremely helpful in my advancement from novice to advanced artist. I highly recommend this book.

I love all of Claudia Nice's watercolor books, and Down by the Sea is no exception. Even though I rarely use pen and ink, the clear instructions for watercolors are invaluable. I've quickly accumulated a collection of her books and this is one of my favorites. Full of tips and instruction, both techniques and color mixing. I was NOT happy with the shipping - it was listed as Prime shipping but in small print, it said ships in 1 - 3 weeks. It was indeed 3 weeks before the book shipped. Watch the fine print!!!

I really like all of the books that I have purchases by Claudia Nice. She has a simple and understandable approach to each subject that she focuses on. As with all painting, it is important to know how to draw. This is more of a "techniques and tips" type of book for rendering this subject.

I was not disappointed when I received this book. The illustrations are outstanding as is the text which has a handwritten appearance. It feels like you have the artist's journal in your hands. Various subject matter related to the sea, waves, seashore, and activities on the beach are covered in a professional manner. The work is beautiful. The subject matter is exciting. I can't wait to get to my paints and start working! This is so far, one of my very favorite books in my art technique collection. For the price, I highly recommend you order this book if you are interested in painting the sea and life by the sea.

Great art instruction and I will use what’s left of the book, but pages 17-30 have been cut out. That seems like a lot! Will be looking for an undamaged copy.

Mrs. Nice hat's ja einfach mal sowas von drauf und ihre spürbare Liebe zur Natur steckt einfach an... da will man sofort loslaufen... an den Strand, oder in den Wald. Der Stil Stift und Farbe zusammen gefällt mir total und erinnert mich an so schöne hochwertige Kinderbuch-Illustrationen. Die Autorin hat das Buch größtenteils von Hand geschrieben, kann man aber gut lesen...das Buch an sich ist also schon ein kleines Kunstwerk. Außerdem sind außer schönen Meeresthemen auch noch hinten umfangreich Tipps zum Malen von Menschen und Tieren (Vögel, Hunde), die man ins Bild mit unterbringen kann. Total interessant ist es zu sehen, mit welchen Stricharten und Aquarelltechniken man so verschiedene Dinge/Strukturen wie Sand, Schaum, Tierfell, Wasserwellen, alte Steine und vieles mehr malen kann...das gefällt mir, weil es somit realistische Details der Natur berücksichtigt und darstellt. Tolles hübsches Buch...halt eben auf Englisch.

Excellent book and explained perfectly. Very helpful and worth every penny. A good reference guide also. Everything becomes much clearer and leaves a sense of enthusiasm to paint water.

Comprei o livro porque ainda não pintei o mar em aquarela, e, gostaria de fazê-lo o mais real possível; a autora e seus livros sempre utiliza da caneta a nanquim e depois o pincel aquarelando as pinturas; é uma técnica que costumo usar ; mas valeu por novas experiências; é sempre um aprendizado !
