Good if you need a punch in a pinch. But I don't recommend if you need to do multiple in a row. Sometimes it just wouldn't work and a few times the punch was loose.

I guess these are great for their intended mechanical purpose, but the automatic center punches are absolutely the best and easiest way to rescue somebody (or a pet) from a locked vehicle. Press these against the vehicle's window, and POP! - no more window! No more repeated banging on the window with a nightstick, flashlight, rock, or your partner's head. One instantaneous motion and you're done. I've carried one of these in my patrol car for decades. These are for my personal cars, but for the same reason. As an aside, I showed one of these to my captain. He thought it was cool, and before I could stop him he popped the corner of his glass desk top with it. The entire desk top instantly shattered into thousands of pieces. He stood looking at it for a few moments and said, 'Well it certainly does the trick. I'll have to get one.".

Compared to my previous spring loaded center punches, this one is slightly inferior while still being adequate for occasional use. It is considerably longer than my other ones, making it more difficult to fit into confined areas. It also doesn't have a particularly strong action, and it only punches toward the very end of a relatively stiff travel. So it's kind of big, weak, and heavy. But it does generally work. I'm using them to lay out railroad signal control terminal boards which are plastic/fiber coated plywood, and you really have to punch 2 or 3 times to make an impression. Which doesn't sound bad until you realize I'm punching to drill dozens, sometimes hundreds of holes and a more effective tool would be far less taxing. The one upside of the large size is that it's easier to grip. The fact that you get two is a bonus and they are inexpensive which must be considered for a tool that will be eventually lost. The little case is nice but not very useful unless I can repurpose it. I'd rather have a harder/sharper tip with a stronger action than the case.

I've decided to write my first Amazon review due to how spectacularly bad this product is. Both centerpunches were completely non functional out of the box. One of them was completely jammed which indicates that they are not tested AT ALL at the factory. I opened them up to see what was wrong. I was blown away by how much was wrong: -One of the parts was assembled backwards in one of the centerpunches. after I fixed that, it still didn't work. -The finish of the internal parts is so rough that they constantly catch on each other preventing the mechanism from working. They look like they were made by the world's cheapest lathe and were not sanded or polished at all. -One of the main springs was very bent which prevented it from being fully compressed. Even after I sanded the heck out of the parts and drenched the inside with WD-40, it still only worked maybe 10% of the time I compressed it. To add even further insult to injury, the force of a successful punch would cause the parts to get jammed, requiring disassembly to unjam. I cannot think of any product I've used that was anywhere near as bad as this one. Everything indicates that quality control for this product simply does not exist; they don't test these at all. All it would take to discern my copy was broken would be to test it just once. This is literally the worst thing I have spent money on in my entire life. That is not hyperbole. I cannot think of anything else that was this dysfunctional.

Not a bad tool but oversized compared to alternatives. Tip is not sharp enough and is not properly hardened. Good for wood and softer metals. Just passable for softer mild steel. No good for harder steels including Stainless steel.

slightly bulky

Product is useless. Both automatic punch did not last. The fist one broke on my second punch to a solid aluminium plate. Waste of money. Product quality not as good as advertised! On a positive note, the case is really good except the contents of it. XXX
