These storage drums are perfect. Just the right size to easily move and store. I was very impressed , quality lid with seal, the lock ring , very strong and solid .

I bought this 30 gallon plastic drum Eagle 1601MB Blue High Density Polyethylene Lab Pack Drum which comes with a tapered lid that nicely seals the drum to use as a dust collector in my woodshop. I cut a hole in the lid with a hole saw on my drill and mounted an Oneida Molded DIY Dust Deputy Cyclone on it. I then made a two shop vacuum y-adapter out of dust collection parts that I hook up to two shop vacuums when I use my planer. I use my planer infrequently (maybe once a month) so it is not a big deal to use the two shop vacs. One shop vac is dedicated to my saw (on a relay) so it goes on automatically--I use a five gallon dust seperator model CV-06 from Clear View Cyclones--this dust collector is easy to open and empty and just sits next to the shop vac. I steal this away temporarily from table saw. The 30 gallon system is only used when I use the planer as it is easier to use and works better than the "trash can sock" attachment that DeWalt sells for use with the planer. My wife and I are very happy with the 30 gallon drum method. We do not use the steel clamp to hold the lid on as it is unneccessary. If I ever have a lot of water to pick up, the drum would be handy for that also. If I can remember, I will take a couple of pictures and put them on my own website (I think Amazon does not allow me to post pictures anymore). I'll update this description if I accomplish this task. Edit 10/28/2014 --------------- I have found that I use this tool for two other purposes than originally intended. I have a two story house and needed to do some work on the copper pipes on the first floor. I was able to connect my shop vacuum to faucet in the garage to pull the water out of the pipes without making a mess in the shop vacuum. I was surprised at how much water is in a home's pipes. It made the job much easier. My dust separator was also put into action when defrosting my manual defrost freezer in the garage. Previously this was a messy job with a lot of water on the garage floor. Now I can use an upholstery tool to scrape the melting frost off of the cooling coils and pull the water out of the bottom of the freezer before it runs on the floor. This dust collector is a nice tool to have.

We purchased 2 of these (and a third one a month later) and have not been disappointed. We have utilized these for storage of flour, sugar, coffee, as well as dried beans, rice, and more. They are made from a very thick, sturdy material, have a very tight sealing lid which is easy to close and open, and can store quite a bit. One of these large 30 gallon drums fits 120+ lbs of bagged flour for us! Well worth the price to preserve food long term!

I mounted a Dust Deputy on top of this drum. Worked great! Now, I'm not the first to do that. I found the idea in reviews of the Dust Deputy. But I'm here to tell you: 1. Works GREAT. 2. KEY DETAILS. Both of my vacuums have enough suction to collapse a bucket or drum with thinner walls or poor reinforcement. That's just not a problem with this blue drum. However, the lid is a lighter material. It needed some plywood reinforcement. ASSEMBLY: There are two shop-made PVC gaskets between the Dust Deputy and the barrel lid, and two more just below the lid. There there is a piece of plywood to reinforce the lid. It's all connected with six 5/16" hex head bolts, each with two washers and one nut. Without the plywood the top was sucked deeply into the drum. Now it stays pretty flat. And it's a tight joint. How tight? If there's rainwater puddled on top and I use the system, not a drop of water gets sucked through the connections. It's easy to see all the dust is bone dry when you pull the lid off. Holes for the bolts were easily drilled, 21/64" (or 5/16" if that's what you have). The main hole for the Dust Deputy was easily cut with a sharp utility knife and patience. IN USE: I line the drum with a large plastic bag. Because the vacuum wants to pull the bag to obstruct the bottom hole of the Dusty Deputy, I throw some scrap wood into the bottom of the bag, and make sure the bag is stretched close to the drum wall before putting the lid on. I particularly like the size of this drum. It goes easily through a doorway when needed for a job. i also like the way the drum really stands up to strong vacuums. Suction provided by a Festool CT MIDI (max 137 CFM) or Ridgid WD4070 (103 CFM). Connection to tools with Bosch 5-meter hose. FUTURE: Someday this will probably be mounted on a cart . The shape of this drum is ideal for that. Just planning ahead. The drum has been more stable than expected so the cart is off in the future. I purchased this to partner with the Dust Deputy Cyclone, as a dust collection system for my small shop. This setup was to replace the Home Depot Dust Stopper. The Dust Stopper with a Home Depot 5 gallon bucket not only did not seal tight enough so that it lost suction, but filled up way to fast. Planing 4x 4"x4"x4' boards would fill the old system. This bucket can fit a lot more debris (just by size alone) and provides a better overall experience. I have this coupled with my Vacmaster 6.5 HP shop vac that is rated for 150 CFM. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this canister overall. The canister itself is very rigid, and has been able to withstand a good beating. It shipped without a box (little weird), but arrived undamaged, which I believe goes to show the quality of it. The latching system for the lid to the main body, is extremely well fitted and provides a very nice airtight connection. It's extremely easy to get the lid on and off with the latching mechanism. The only small complaint with this canister is the lid. The lid is good, and provides a nice airtight seal, and is easy to cut and adjust to attach the Dust Deputy Cyclone. The drawback to how easy it is to cut, is that it is a little thin, and with the suction from the shop vac, it has a tendency to deform. If the lid had been a little thicker, this would be a 5 star product. But for my purposes, just adding some 1/4 inch mdf backing to the lid to add some rigidity, meets my needs. Final note; static does build up on the canister when running the dust collection for more than 30 minutes. This is with using anti-static hoses on both connections, and the Dust Deputies claim to being anti-static. This is not a concern for me, but for those that are looking for longer runs, or live in drier climates, you may consider adding some grounding to the canister itself to reduce the chances of a static discharge.

I bought this because I like to take advantage of home brewing deals. Frequently that means I end up with grain supplies that I need to keep fresh and away from critters that like sweet grain. After all can you blame them? This came in a box and I was initially concerned because the walls of the drum were pushed so close together as to nearly be touching. I thought this was a mistake until I realized that it's intended to flex in that manner and didn't harm the product in any way. I disconnected the lid without difficulty, separated the walls with my hands, and let the drum acclimate before it resumed a normal shape. Currently I have about 50lbs of sweet grain contained in the drum for use when my brew day arrives - hopefully sooner than later. The quality of the construction is really excellent. The ring around the lid is made of a really solid material and the poly lid secures with a satisfying suction as to convince me that the contents are air-tight. I'll be buying another one of these very soon as they hold a lot of contents and fit just about anywhere conveniently.

preliminary review: i ordered the 20 gallon with the metal ring. it got delivered to our rural post office without any packaging, just various stickers and a tag ziptied to the rim ring. i was initially very concerned because the plastic lid was puffed out like a dome, with about six areas around the circumference all dimpled and wavy. when i opened the ring and pushed on the plastic lid, it began to go flat. that's when i realized that this thing is ~incredibly~ air-tight! we live at about 7,500 elevation, and it's usual to have bags of snacks that we buy at low elevation puff up to bursting by the time we get home. obviously, this barrel was sealed at low elevation and incredibly, that metal ring sealed it airtight under pretty high pressure. just picked it up yesterday and haven't filled it yet for use in our offgrid shower build, but there is zero doubt it will hold water without as much as a pinhole leak.

I purchased this to use as part of my dust collection system. Works great, nice smaller size for me. Might not be big enough for someone who does a lot of wood work and turning. But I'm only doing it a few hours a week, if that. Expensive "bucket", but it's sturdy and seals great. NOTE: the lid has a unique shape to it, and only the center (11"-12" diameter) area is flat. I have the Oneida Super Dust Deputy mounted to the lid for my dust collection. This is working great, and was easy to install.

I used this bin for my dust collection system combined with a Dust Deputy cyclone. It's super strong and seals air tight. See attached photo for the system I made. Cover is perfectly flat, used a combination of 1/2" plywood above and below the lid for strength and used a rubber anti fatigue mat in between each layer to help with air seal. Also used caulking in between each level. I don't have one speck of dust getting into the shop vac or filter.

bought this rig specifically for use with a cyclonic dust separator, retrofitted onto the lid. Works perfectly for that job. Seals tight enough for the cyclonic separator to work as designed, the lid is rigid enough to support the cyclonic separator, holds a lot of saw dust, empties easily, and the tall, narrow shape doesn't take up too much floor space in my little shop. Ideal poor man's dust separation rig when fitted with a Dust Deputy.

I used this as the chip collector in my Dust Collection System. I tried another trash can, but it just collapsed under the suction. i was gonna get a metal trash can, but thought that this would work better because of the lever-lock lid - it does. Because of that lid it is tight and i think it will work really well for years. The dust in the bag is from the original rubber trash can. After i tested this one, i didn't get any measurable amount of dust in the bag from about a 2 gallon bucket of saw dust and dirt.
