Keratex Hoof Gel
Keratex hoof gel was recommended to me by my farrier. I’m very impressed! Since using this product on my pony’s hooves every other day, there has been a great improvement. They are stronger and more resilient in these wet, muddy winter conditions.

Seems to make hooves brittle
I bought this based on the rave reviews I read everywhere else but am highly dubious about it and definitely won't be buying it again. My lease horse is an arab who is barefoot and lives 'free' in a herd on 1000 acres. He is never stabled and has never been shod. His hooves are ok but he is prone to thrush when it rains a lot. I only get to see him at weekends, and during the week he is pretty much left to his own devices so his hooves don't get picked out daily. I should point out that I live in Queensland Australia, and when it rains, it really really rains and it's perfect thrush weather. So, I brought this to see if it could prevent thrush, amongst other things. I started applying it to his hooves on Saturdays and Sundays when I saw him, and very soon his hooves started to look dry and his frogs appeared to shrivel up. Layers of frog were shed but his hooves were like Iron and he was sound, so I wasn't worried. A friend also started using it on her horse at the same time. Her horse lives in the exact same situation as mine. At about the same time after about a month or 6 weeks, both horses started to break bits off their hoof walls while out riding. The terrain is a bit rough and that's not unusual, but it just kept happening until all 4 hooves had great big chunks missing from the edges. I file my horses hooves regularly, so it wasn't happening because they were overgrown. Also, both horses started to develop several shallow but full length cracks down the hoof wall. We both agreed that our horses hooves have lost strength and become dry and brittle since using this product. The theory behind it seems sound, but I think the fact that it has a turps base is why is is so drying. I wouldn't recommend it.
