This unique and exotic chess set is hand carved in the Carpathian mountains of Europe, and makes an excellent light weight travel chess set. Players on the go will appreciate the Kasbah as a quality folding chess set. Notice the intricate detail given to the crowns of the King and Queen, and their airy elegance. The Bishops and Rooks have been re-envisioned to provide players with a more tapered feel. In addition, the pieces of this travel set have been designed with wide bases to make them more difficult to jostle or tip. This fine chess set includes a wood chess board which doubles as a storage container with ornate clasp for the chess pieces - just turn the double compartment carrying case over to reveal a chess board with algebraic coordinates! The King is a worthy 2.35inches tall and is, like each of the chess pieces, made from Beech wood - known for its fine grain and excellent finish. The chess board is 11.25" x 11.25" and decorated on the borders for display at home or in the office. The interior of the storage compartment is lined with green felt which cushions the chess pieces for easy and safe transport. Of course the bottom of the pieces are felt-covered to protect the chess board from scratches. This chess set is wonderfully detailed, unique and decorative - small enough for travel and large enough for comfortable playing. Also, I must comment on how sturdy and beautiful the board is. It was painful for me to give this to my Grandfather for his birthday, I wanted to keep it for myself.

The craftsmanship is beautiful; the board and pieces alike. I was really impressed with all the pieces though, somewhat disappointed with the size of the board. I suppose I should have checked the measurements first and I would advise others do so before purchasing. I loved the designs on the side of the board
I loved the designs on the side of the board, but the one that came in the mail didn't have them on it :( Also, the pieces are neat, but the horses are just plain without carved eyes or hair. I was sad because this was going to be perfect for my husband. (I'm giving it to him for Christmas.) I hope he still likes it. Please, post the true picture for your customers. It's frustrating to find the perfect thing and get it in the mail only to find out it's different than what you ordered. Also, the board isn't shiny, nor are the pieces, and the bottom of the pieces are red, not green.

they did a good job at ensuring pieces are made to precision
This set is quite impressive. If it is really hand-carved, they did a good job at ensuring pieces are made to precision. The board does not fully open as some others have noted, but it is barely noticeable and does not affect play. The king crosses do appear to be rather fragile. I thought this set said that the pieces fit into a felt lined storage compartment. The storage compartment is felt lined, but they just lay in there and care must be taken to ensure they fit properly so that the king and queen especially are not damaged. So far so good. My son really loved the craftsmanship of the set. As others stated, this set is not meant to be an heirloom piece for generations to come, but it is definitely a step up from your basic set that is sure to impress. I would make this purchase again.

Simple, nice all around board
I like this board. Its simple and easy to carry around if you want something portable, though not for traveling portable that is, but for taking to the library or to a coffee shop and playing chess.

Decent board - a little small
Pros: great price, decent quality wood, Great design of pieces Cons: square size is too small for my needs, would like it to be magnetic, pieces are very light, board is very light. there are no spaces for each piece (meaning you just toss them in inside of the box and could lead to breakage of the pieces)
