excellent! Right now I'm teaching a 3yr old kitty, Little Boy Lovejoy, who has never learned to play. He had some serious health issues when we rescued him & his brother [who's much bigger] which were ferals at 3 wks. old. They both have psych issues. On top of everything else his brother constantly played too rough and our older girls really didn't want anything to do w/him, hence he never learned how to play. We've never had a cat who didn't know how to play. Whenever we tried to play w/him he was too busy looking over his shoulder or showed no interest. He did however like to watch everybody else. We had no choice and found his brother a home with a great friend who has plenty of patience, as his mental issues were much worse. That helped but still didn't solve the problem. We've been watching "My Cat From Hell" because there were also peepee problems w/territory issues. At first we thought...this show is ridiculous. But after watching a couple of episodes we thought...this guy is on to something ...Which brings me back to your toys! Little Boy is so picky! But the minute I showed him the wand, he was instantly interested. We played for over 1 1/2 hrs. before I got too tired. After just a couple of days he seems so much more relaxed and eager to play. He has never asked to play. We always had to initiate play. Now he's asking for it! The only toy he ever liked was a motion sensored bird that chirps that I tied a string to. This is great! The feathers fluttering through the air are such a turn on for him and don't freak him out when they touch him. They are very well made. I like the fishing lore set up. It makes for an easy transition of other feather heads. The only improvement I could make would be to use a jewelry/lock knot when attaching string to slip ring [above lore] as it fell off after a couple of days of hard play. No biggy. I still think these are great and reasonable, so many others I looked at before choosing yours looked cheaply made w/short or hardly any feathers and the wand was a lot more sturdy. Little Boy Love Joy and I both send you our thanks, and wish you luck with your hand and American made venture. As an avid crafter/jewelry creator I appreciate a quality hand made product. I salute you! Thanks. P.S. The girls thank you too!

Exactly what I was looking for in a feather wand!
This cat wand toy is pretty good as far as cat wand toys go. It comes with a detachable extension to make the stick part longer - I did feel the need to super-glue it together so it wouldn't come apart during use (which will happen every time if you don't glue it). I am quite happy with the quality of the stick - some other company versions apparently are made with fiberglass that gets into your skin? Anyways, this toy does not have any fiberglass and it feels quite durable! As far as the rest of it - the string did get untied from the ring where you attach the feather piece, but that was because I was using it pretty roughly. I do have to keep tying it back together, and I may just burn the knot so it stays tied (this is no problem for me and I don't consider it a real flaw). I love that it comes with 2 extra, different styled feather attachments (so there is 3 altogether). The attachments are exactly as pictured, although they each have a small bell attached as well. I did feel the need to remove the bell on two of the attachments, just because I didn't want my cat to get smacked in the face with the bell part (the bell isn't even big or heavy, and it actually wouldn't hurt the cat if it did hit her). I also thought it would seem more like a bird if it didn't have a bell. I kept the bell on one of the attachments, though, in case I decide I want it. Basically, this is exactly what I was looking for in a feather wand toy. Thank you Natural Pet Company! (although $10 is a bit too much for this toy. A more reasonable price would be anywhere between $5 and $7, in my opinion).

Good toy but I would recommend the attachments more than the wand itself because the wand can come apart during play.
This toy is a great concept since I can connect both pieces of the wand to make it longer and I also like the fact that it comes with several different attachments. The string is holding up well so far (I've had the toy for just over a week or two now) and so are the attachments. I'm guessing the feathers are real judging by the way one of our indoor cats growls as it (she doesn't growl at fake toys and she's extremely particular) and as I'm not a fan of fake fur or feathers either in case they get swallowed so that's another plus. The way the attachments attach to the wand is also an improvement over several of my other older wand-type toys. I gave this item 4 stars instead of 5 however for one main reason and that is because when you use both wand pieces together, the one piece often gets pulled out from where it connects to the 2nd wand piece during play and I don't like that. And to use the one wand by itself, the wand is too short in my opinion to get the best play action out of your cat. The only other thing that I could possibly criticize about this toy is that the attachments have bells on them which can be both good and bad. It's good because I can pick up the toy and the cats will come running when they hear the bell. It's bad because IF it were to become detached, a cat could swallow it and either choke to death on it or possibly require surgery to have the bell removed as bells aren't exactly digestible. The bell can be cut off of the toy however if someone doesn't want it on there so it's not something that would prevent me from getting more attachments from this company if nothing else. The quality seems pretty good overall as the item hasn't yet been destroyed in the week or so that I've had it and even though I don't like the fact that both wand pieces can be too easily disconnected, both cats love it and that's the most important thing. Amazon sells a similar wand where both wand pieces actually screw together and I personally prefer that wand over this. This one will still get the job done however so in the end it will all come down to the personal preferences of both the cats and the owner. Lastly, I would only use this toy (and most other cat toys as well) while being supervised by the owner just in case the bell or some of the feathers were to come loose but then that's mostly just common sense these days. Cats are a lot like babies in the sense that if you turn your back for only a second, there's no telling what kind of trouble they can get themselves into.

Great features and my cat loves it!
Awesome cat toy! As soon as he saw the feathery attachment he went crazy. I knew that was the one for him. When you spin it around it "flies" a few inches off the ground and can go higher as well. This makes for some amazing aerobatics from my cat. With this toy he gets tired from about 5 to 10 minutes of play, where as with other toys he is not nearly as aggressive and so it takes longer to tire him out. Pros: Extendable handle (by attaching 2 pieces together) Multiple attachments Long string! Cons: Handle pops apart easily when cat nabs the toy, which can then "slingshot" and hit the cat.\ Conclusion: Great toy with a lot of options that really make it worth the already low price. UPDATE: My cat is still enjoying this toy about 1.5 years later. I taped the wand up and it has held together remarkably well. He likes that you can swap out the bird feather or the "tail" so its like a new toy every now and then.

More resilient than Da Bird
My cat is pretty much addicted to the Da Bird toy by Go Cat. Unfortunately, quality control of the 'bird' attachments from Go Cat is poor, and overall quality is fair at best. So some fall apart right away, and most fall apart at the slightest aggressive play (and my cat is a consummate hunter, so she makes short work of them). Go Cat's replacements cost at a minimum $3 apiece even if you buy in volume directly from the company. After a while, we accumulated tons of 'bird' parts, and started reassembling them on our own with a glue gun. That turned out to be the best solution--apparently the problem for most of the Go Cat birds is too little or too weak adhesive. But when the wand itself finally started wearing out, I went looking for competitors. I decided to give The Natural Pet Company's version a try. It's only been a few days, but I'm already impressed. The attachments are much higher quality, include more feathers and even a little bell. My cat doesn't seem to know the difference and loves this one just as much as Da Bird. Assuming the refills are of higher quality than the Da Bird refills, this will be a big win all around. Would like it if they made a version with a one piece wand.

Item not as pictured
I purchased this item for the set of three replacement feather attachments. Here, they are pictured as having those little silver ball-style connectors, which is compatible with the current pole/string I have at home. The feather refills I received instead had a small brown clip connector (similar style to a safety pin), which makes these unusable to me. The wand that came in this package is super thin and flimsy and would have to be glued together to remain in one long piece. The thicker portion that looks like a handle is actually the midpoint/connector section where the two thin poles meet. The quality of the feather refills themselves are nice and look sturdy. I've contacted the company about the connector issue (being different than pictured) and am awaiting their reply. **Update** The seller/manufacturer promptly refunded the cost of the product and apologized that the picture did not accurately describe the toy I received. They said that they changed the style from ball/chain to clip because customers had complained that the ball/chain style was not secure--that their cats would pull the attachment off the string. My comments about the inadequate wand and string still stand. The company offers the feather attachments without the wand/string here (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IN6MS94/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1X32MMJIDCMAJ&coliid=I3JSL31OPHMBLL) if the clip style attachment works for your existing equipment.

3 out of 3 cats approve!
I have owned other brands of this type of wand for my cats, and up until now, I was loyal to DaBird. This toy really compares in terms of design, durability, and my three cats LOVE it! The wand doesn't fall apart like some cheap, off-brands. The toy is great. Although the feather has a bell attached, it is not the same type of annoying bell sound as some cheap ones. Others might mention the bell is small and could pose a choking hazard. I would agree, BUT - this is an interactive toy. When play time is finished, the toy gets put away. I inspect it regularly for loose feathers or anything that might detach. The cats will sit near the drawer to let us know when they want it brought out. If we open the drawer, they come running. That is their way of letting us know they approve. I have already ordered another one since I know this one will get chewed up in the very near future. TWO DAYS LATER, the bell came off while playing. Since the cats actually prefer the bell, I re-attached it. The feather actually has a hook type attachment (not the chain bead type as shown). I just put the bell on the hook, and it is as good as new - maybe better since it cannot come off again! My largest cat (17-1/2 pounds) has claimed this as HIS toy. The toy stands up to his brutal playing.

Pro and Cons for me. Might be a 5 star cat toy for you.
There are high points and low points to this feather wand toy in my opinion which is how I landed at 4 stars. In fairness I think 3.5 stars would be better but we don't have that option. The highs... - cats seem to really like it. Out of the package I had 3 of the 4 resident cats here clamoring to play with it. The fourth cat never plays with anything -- she views toys as the enemy. No clue why. - the feather attachment is full and seems well constructed. Really well constructed, actually, and you get two additional feathers. That makes this company's version a real bargain. The lows.... - the pole comes in two parts (as many of these wand toys do) which is actually a nice feature. But these two parts do not have a tight hold with each other. The first time fluffy kitty "caught" the feathers she walked with it and pulled the pole apart with no effort whatsoever. This is kind of a design flaw, no? I don't think the goal is to have your cats walking around with the feather AND the wand. - the bell. Why do so many of these wand toys come with a metal bell??????? When flinging the feathers around near the cats it is very easy to smack then in the schnozzz with the bell. And that would hurt, no? If you Must attach a bell because you think it is going to excite the cats more (my cats have no interest in bells and do not need to hear the sound of a bell to signal its time for play) then why not put it lower down on the wand itself? - it doesn't seem quite as aerodynamic as some of the other feather wand toys. It flies for sure but just not as effortlessly as some others. THE BOTTOM LINE: if you don't mind the wand/stick/thingy coming apart over and over again and you don't mind smacking your kitty with a bell then this is a five star product. I am sure if my hairy black and white cat were writing this review she would give it 5 stars. When she caught the feather and ran with it she was in her glory. ADDED 11.16.14.... Since writing my review I've been in contact with the Natural Pet Company that makes and sells this cat toy. First of all, I am so impressed by how conscientious they are. They wanted let me know that they had looked into the problem I reported about the wand coming apart easily and said they found a manufacturing flow in one batch of these toys. They refunded my money (which wasn't necessary) and seemed to indicate that it was just one batch that had the flaw. As for the bell, the correctly said that many owners like having the bell there and I am sure that's true. I am just not a bell fan but as I said, I tore the bell off easily so it was not a problem for me. Down the road when their new batch of wand toys comes out, I will purchase one and will likely give it 5 stars. I actually thing the aerodynamic issue will be solved when the pole stays more securely together. NEW BOTTOM LINE: An upstanding company that had one run with a flaw in it and I happened to get that one. I think the future is bright for this wand toy.
