The clipper is 120 volts and it burned after 10 seconds. Do you have the same clipper at 220 volts? **Q: will the whole thing get hot when using it for extensive periods of time?** A: Yes. I think they all do. When they get hot I just put them down for a while to cool off. When you are using the Clippers you can put the little plastic length guide heads on them, and then the hot part will not touch the dog so much **Q: how can I order extra combs to fit this cllipper** A: I think you could contact the company and get parts. **Q: does this work effectively for cats as well?** A: Whisper? Not so much. I found these to be a bit louder than regular clippers for people as I was looking for something more quiet also. And the clipping didn't seem to be quite as effective. At about $60 a pop for professional grooming I figured even if I got through one at home it would save money. I'm very happy with the performance of these clippers. I've never groomed a dog before but I watched the DVD and got to work on the big mop that was my dog. The motor is nice and quiet so he was comfortable and it was powerful enough to get the job done. It did take many passes to work down to the length I wanted, it wouldn't just power through his coat. That's probably best at my skill level anyway since it gave me time to see the end result taking shape. Definitely going to save a ton of money in the long run so I would recommend these for anyone with a small dog requiring frequent grooming. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quiet and Didn't Scare My Buddy! *by T***S on April 16, 2014* My dog was having difficulty pooping due to medication he was given. He was at his end days and shivered with anxiety at loud noises. I wanted a professional product yet didn't want to pay too much as I knew I wouldn't need it for long or use it very often. I only needed it twice.It worked! My Fozzie (Aussie!) wasn't taken back too much. He was just wondering what I was doing to his butt. But he was not afraid of the noise. It worked well. I tried the different sizes but I have two left thumbs and couldn't figure it out. It didn't take me long until I just said heck with it and carefully used the clipper by itself without the attachments. It worked fine.Yes, my vet would have probably done it cheaper but this saved him one less trip to the vet. I won't throw it away as there may be another "Fozzie" in the future.... ### ⭐ Quality is not great.... *by R***O on May 13, 2020* This product is only good for small or short hair dogs. It's very quiet but heats up quickly while holding it. I wasn't able to finish grooming my dog and needed to take her to a Groomer. There are only two settings and they're not too powerful. I don't recommend this at all.
