Taking your time, having the correct tools (heat gun, glue gun, Dremel, scrapers and panel adhesive/contact cement are required) and doing the installation correctly is key to having it look good. You will need to remove the door panel from the car door and remove the insert from the door panel - this requires cutting the plastic tabs that hold the insert to the door panel (I used a Dremel). After removing the old covers, I used the heat gun and scrapers to remove as much of the old glue as possible. I then installed the new cover using contact cement, a small brush and the heat gun a small part at a time. It is important to cover both pieces with contact cement and let them both dry before putting together - the heat gun can speed this up but don't overheat anything - this is easy to do. You have to heat and use a lot of pressure at the curves. After attaching the new covers I trimmed the excess and punched holes where the old connections from the insert to the door panel were. I then cut a zip tie and hot glued the part without the clip into each area where the old melted plastic pieces that held the panel on were. I pushed this through the insert holes and used the cut zip tie end to hold the insert to the panel. There is a YouTube video for the above process - search on VW door panel insert.
