Review: Perfect for water hammering washers! - We have an LG water saving front loading washer, older model, but still hammers the water lines every single cycle. Why washers are designed with the fill a little at a time nonsense is beyond me, but thats a gripe for another forum. Now to this Sioux Chief Water Hammer Arrester. Installation was a breeze, solder joints are well done and overall built very solid. No leaks off either of the two installed, washer hoses fit nice and snug, and overall they function really well. I have had this installed for a little over a year now, and although the water hammering has come back some, it is still much better than without. There was an instant improvement when first installed, no hammering what so ever. I actually have a new set on standby to be installed one of these days. Highly recommend for anyone in an older home without a pressure reducing valve installed on your water main.
Review: Stops pipes from banging! - This thing actually works! It's easy to install, you need to turn off the hot & cold water outlets to your washer, unscrew the hoses (they will still have some water left in them, so have a towel handy), screw the hoses into the arrestors first, and then finally screw the arrestors directly in to the back of your washing machine. They have a long stem so they can clear the back panel of the washing machine easily if the inlets are recessed. My washing machine was originally installed improperly and the plastic threaded inlets for hot and cold water were kind of chewed up, so my advice when putting on the new arrestors is to go very slowly and carefully. Back up if you feel any resistance and remember your righty-tighty lefty-loosey rule. They will screw on quite a way before you feel the internal O-ring washer bump up against the inlet and only then will it feel tighter as you screw it on. If you feel resistance earlier then you're probably not aligned with the threads and you should stop immediately and start over. So even with a washing machine with messed up water inlets it was still a relatively easy install if you have some patience. Just don't rush it. I would advise not putting the arrestors on first and then attaching the hoses because tightening the hose-to-arrestor connection will put a lot of strain on the washing machine's water inlets. In use the arrestors don't make any noise that I can tell, and if they do it's way quieter than the pipes banging around in your walls. Water pressure seems fine and the washing machine does the job. No problems there. It's a big piece of mind to know that my pipes aren't rattling themselves to death now. I get the same water hammer effect from my dishwasher so I'll definitely be installing one there next. Now I wonder why all appliances don't come with this feature built in, or at least come with a set of arrestors. Highly recommended! And for somebody with zero plumbing experience it was not a big deal.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this product made in usa or china**
A: Made in America. All arresters are manufactured in the
USA, utilizing all-American copper and brass materials.

**Q: Do these have to be mounted vertical or can the cap be mounted horizontal?**
A: They can be mounted in any direction. I use two for my hose connections outside (mounted horizontally) and they work just fine.

**Q: how long does yours last before it stops working?**
A: About 3 years, and only 500-600 on/off cycles before it stopped arresting water hammer. It was installed between an exterior hose bib and a battery powered mechanical timer.

**Q: Where is the best place to install these for the whole house?**
A: I think that this type water hammer arrestor was intended more for clothes washer or dish washer then for whole house. I would recommend the 653-b arrestor for the whole house installed as close to where the water line enters the house as possible

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eliminates water hammer with an LG washer
*by C***7 on September 24, 2024*

Several years ago we bought a new LG washer and quickly learned they are notorious for causing "water hammer" as the supply valves open and shut. LG even acknowledges this in their owner's manual. The solution are these Sioux Chief water hammer arresters, which simply install on the back of the washer, then you hook the supply hoses up to the arresters. I believe you could also put the arrester on the faucet if that is easier in your set-up. They completely eliminated water hammer in our house. Only downside is the arresters do wear out and eventually stop working after 3-4 years. Sioux Chief has a guarantee (I believe it is lifetime) so they will replace them at least once, but I just bought these. Cheap and easy fix, and saves your pipes! Note: there are versions that are built into the supply box, directly soldered to the shut off valves. Because the water hammers do wear out, I would strongly suggest avoiding these "2-in1" assemblies as the arrestors will be much harder to replace.
