Excellent print quality
I had decided to upgrade from an older Wanhao 4S and my choice was made after a thorough review of what was available on the market right now. This printer compares well to others with some costing twice the price. It offers great build quality with heavy duty rectangular sections for X- and Y-axes which are 2x the size of other similar large print capacity machines, and it also offers a direct drive extruder (good for flexible filaments) with whisper quiet stepper drivers. The extra chasis stability offered by this design contributes to a superior finish on your prints, but you do need to ensure everything is adjusted correctly when first setting it up. The volcano hot end is capable of higher flow rates (because it can melt the plastic filament faster) meaning it can print fast if needed. There is no auto-bed levelling but a BL Touch (or similar) can be added by the user if desired. Personally I found that in combinaton with the stock print bed (which grips well when hot and releases easily when cold - meaning you're not having to wrench/chip the print off the bed which can disturb the level setting) that manual levelling is good enough as it rarely needs any further adjustment. It's a very tall machine and I didn't want to use the supplied spool holder as when attached to the top rail it makes it even taller and I'm tight for space lol! My spools sit on a shelf above the printer on spool rollers so they're easy to change over. There are a few weak design points: the power cable for the heated bed really needs some extra strain relief where it attaches at the rear (the bed is powered by mains 240v AC, which makes it fast to heat up but, well, voltages are lethal so you don't want any chance of fraying cables here!). DIY printable solutions can be found online. Anyway, the Sidewinder has performed flawlessly for me over the past month or and I can thoroughly recommend it . I paid £375 so best to shop around for the best price.
