Simple Tool, Big Time Saver for Brake Jobs This Lisle disc brake pad spreader turned out to be one of those tools you don’t realize you need until you use it. I do my own brake work from time to time, and in the past I used C-clamps or whatever else I had on hand to push the caliper piston back. That always felt awkward, sometimes risky, and usually took more effort than it should. With this spreader, it’s a straightforward process—slip it in, twist, and the piston retracts evenly without drama. The handle gives you good leverage, and the action feels smooth and controlled. It saves time and keeps your hands out of the way compared to makeshift methods. The tool is compact, so it fits well in the toolbox and doesn’t take up space. I like that it feels solidly built, with no play in the threads or wobbly parts, so I expect it to hold up for many brake jobs down the line. If you’re working on multi-piston calipers, this won’t be the right tool, but for standard single-piston calipers it’s perfect. One small tip—put a used pad between the tool and piston face so you’re pushing evenly across the piston. Bottom line: A simple, well-built tool that makes brake jobs faster, cleaner, and safer—well worth the small investment if you maintain your own vehicles.

Works like a charm. It's easy to maneuver, especially if each piston on a two-piston caliper needs an individual nudge. If a piston doesn't go into the bore smooth and steady, you'll sense it immediately - which alerts you to another issue to repair. Great product, reasonably priced. I'm surmising that it was manufactured at Lisle's plant in Clarinda, Iowa, USA, because I didn't find any "Made in China" labeling. Bonus points for that.

Sure you can use a C clamp or a adjustable wrench but this isn't very expensive and looks to be of reasonable construction. My only issue is I have everything to install brakes but I've been waiting for almost 3 weeks for a floor jack to ship and I'll be damned if I'm breaking out the jack out of my trunk when quality floor jack is on order. Ok finally used this tool and all I can say is Perfect! Works just as it should, I tightened in small slow increments and let the piston settle all the way back. Made adding the pads a dream, now if there was a way to keep the freak'n pads in place till you slide the caliper back in place ! lol

First, and this is from the heart - replacing brake pads is only marginally more difficult than changing oil. It's really not that big of a deal, provided you have the right tools and some patience. This is a good tool, and one I tried after using a C clamp for years. It has a number of advantages, not the least of which is that it fits easily on all kinds of calipers. Thing is, with a C clamp you need to have a good point on the caliper where the stage will fit...without a good resting point, the clamp may slip off the caliper and spin you off into a dimension of frustration you've never even read about, let alone experienced. The build quality of this tool is just fine - apparently the manufacturer addressed some of the QA issues. My main nit with this tool is mainly around design. I mean, it works and all, but sometimes that piston can be a little reluctant to be compressed. This design doesn't let you use leverage to make the job easier...you have to twist in a direct line with where you want the force to go. Having something on the handle where I could attach a wrench or a ratchet would be magical. But that's not THAT big of a deal - main takeaway is that this simplifies the job. I like it more than the C clamp simply because it's more versatile across a wide variety of vehicles. A good tool.

This is a simple but effective tool. I like it for the front calipers of my cars that have single piston calipers (which many, many but not all cars have). It's perfect for that. It only has one purpose, but it works well for that.

I used this to change my front brakes recently. I had never used a tool like this before. I've always just used a C-Clamp on the caliper. This tool was very simple to use. You just put an old brake pad on the caliper piston, stick the tool in the caliper, and turn the knob. The tool feels sturdy enough to last through many brake jobs. It is easy to use. It was a little more difficult for my car because it has 2 piston front brake calipers, so I had to go back and forth in the caliper to make sure that both pistons got compressed. It still was not hard to use, it just took a few minutes longer. I am very pleased. I would buy this again, but based on how this felt when using it, I don't think I will have to.

I still had to use a normal C-clamp since there wasn't enough room to fit in the pad spreader tool initially. But once I got the pads to back off a little, I was able to fit it in. It worked so much better than a normal C-clamp. Less strain on the wrist, and it was stable too (a normal C-clamp keeps falling off / slipping around). So, I'm really glad I invested in this. Super simple to use, and effective once you can fit it in.

It does exactly what it's designed to do, and it does it just fine. If you're buying this tool, you probably already know this, but you need to use an old brake pad or something like that to let the tool work against -- this tool will not work well on it's own without the old brake pad to press against. Honestly, if you have a c-clamp already, just use that. And if you don't have one, you can probably find a suitable one at Harbor Freight for half the price of this. I don't exactly regret buying this, but it was also kind of a waste of money.

Put this little unit to the test to push the caliper piston back in. No rust with sealed packaging, seems to have a solid weight, could spin the backing plate piece with one finger on thread (not much slack) and feels like a quality/solid unit, have not used other brake pad spreaders but would not hesitate to get a Lisle one if I had the choice again.

Work really well for my civic 2007, no need to add worn brake pads to push the cylinder on this model. Since every car has different brake and system, you'll probably have to add those old pad to do the job, but in general, it's still easier than using tools that is not meant to do that exactly!

This product works, But would have been better if it was dual functional, as newer calipers have 2 notches and we need to rotate to push.Currently I do use nose pliers and lots of hand force to get that kind of break done, But there is always fear of slip and cause damage to rubber and there by fluid leak.
