Great starting point, with one caveat.
These bits are a great starting point for a new machinist, but they're missing one thing! They don't tell you which tool is for which purpose, and because of that I misused and broke one of them. See "Machine Shop Practice" (Volume 1) by Karl Moltrecht for more info, pages 191-194. ISBN 978-0-83111-126 -7.

What they say you get ---- you don't get.
For the $$$$, this is not worth it. you get nothing telling what each tool is and because you do not get what is in the add, it's a guessing game trying to figure it out. 3 stars because 4 of them are good and keep an edge. the others need to be reground or thrown away. NOT FOR THE BEGINNER. And if you know what you are doing you will spend that kind of money for this. I'm a beginner but thought i could trust brand. Amazon has another set less then 1/2 price, each marked and you can tell just by looking at them what they are, might try them next.

Nice assortment.
Ground nicely. 3/8" bar is stiffer than the cheaper 1/4" size and makes a cleaner cut with less chatter.
