I was using a very fine stainless steel mortar and pestle prior to this to crush the pills, but the Silent Knight - though costly- really makes your life so much easier!! I will admit there is a bit of a learning curve to use the Silent Knight pill crusher most effectively. At first I pushed really hard on the handle, and scored the pill pouch with each pill (I crush about 5 at a time). After a few tries, I lightened up on my initial crush, and used more of a lighter touch on the grinding pushes as I moved the bag up. The contents were pulverized, and the bags did not score with the imprint of the initial pill push. Once you find the right touch for you, the pill pouches will last and perform well, and the contents pulverize with ease!
