Great for kids learning basic map & compass skills
Bought several to teach our Federation of North-American Explorers group orienteering. This is a good basic compass. - A little big for the younger boys to easily hold in 1 hand comfortably but good for older boys, adults, etc. - The lanyard is a nice-to-have to avoid having to hold or put in pockets when you want it close by but don't need it at the moment. - Helpful to measure distances on a map, to enhance the value of learning the map-and-compass skill by the boys. - The display is easy to read, and the needle is fully colored Red to point North (vs. just a dot on some other compasses I have seen). - Does not handle declination, but that was beyond the scope of our lessons. - Watch-out!! Slow to get it accurate as the needle moves a lot before settling. Also sensitive to other magnetic items and may not be a perfect read. I have recommended that each of our boys buy 1 of these for their day pack as one of the "Ten Essentials of Hiking!" A good item to have handy at a good price.

Do not purchase...highly inaccurate
Very inaccurate, I purchased this to teaching an orienteering class, the compass is nice and comes with quite a bit of features, but the needle is very inaccurate and does not rotate appropriately. Further there is not leveling bubble. I would HIGHLY recommend you avoid this product, it is 100% not usable for navigation. Now I do understand you get what you pay for and these were cheap, but my main focus was teaching, and I couldn't even teach with these.

Good for informal land navigation courses
A little more finicky than my Silva, but a good learning compass for scouts that doesn’t break the bank or make you cry when they inevitably lose it. I bought these as gifts for my AOL crossover scouts. A great option for informal land navigation classes.

A gift for a bunch of ARES people.
These are great, reasonably priced, simple but has eveything you need for navigation around a map. Light weight, but will stand up to rough treatment. Nice equipment.

Great gift for my cub scout den!
Bright yellow makes them easier to find when left somewhere. Easy to hold and read. Kids like to use the neck strap. Buyer Beware: One of the compasses had reverse polarity. If your North arrow points South, run a strong magnet over it a few times until it points North. No need to return it.

You get less than you pay for.
Bought two boxes of these. They simply do not work at all. The seating of the directional arrow on the pin seems to be bad and you can turn the item all you want and nothing happens with any accuracy. Tried tapping the top and holding in different directions. This item is pure garbage.

They worked for Cub Scouts
Worked great for a Cub Scout adventure. All the boys were able to figure out how to use it and they all pointed in the same direction. Excellent value.
