Old school confectionery done right!
These candies are absolutely fantastic. They're made with good ingredients including real oils, sugar and sugar syrup. No corn syrup... Lifesavers made a proverbial deal with the devil, even though something like the rum buttered lifesaver candies are fantastic tasting, corn syrup is a big no-no. Meanwhile this company has retained quality ingredients and they deserve a lot of credit for that because the prices are reasonable for such quality candy. I grew up with the violet product which was always a treat. This was a very special item because the flavor was distinct with flowery overtones and a bold sweet balance. I had never tried the lemon candies. They were delicious with the perfect balance between the lemon flavor and tartness. All the other candies were incredible as well. I wish consider the peppermint candies for each brand to be a benchmark... Can they get it right? The peppermint is refreshing and bracing, I will take these over Altoids any day of the week and I do respect the quality of an Altoid mint. I want to address another issue as well, for some reason there seems to be a correlation between really good quality products and packaging. These candies, as well as the Royal sours purchased, were packaged using a minimum of plastic and were easy to open. To me that's important.

Old fashioned and yummy
These are old fashioned, but very yummy candies. I like how they melt in your mouth after a while. I'm scared of regular hard candies lol. Great variety of flavors. Mine arrived fresh and well packaged.

Something Different, Something Interesting, Something From Childhood
These are old school lozenges, w/ a variety of flavors. I bought them just for the violet flavor and they indeed closely resemble Parma Violets, a candy from childhood. The guava flavor is different but good. I'll update more as I work through the box but don't wait up for the spearmint review - I don't care for that flavor.

Very good
Growing up my grandma always had the violet and so it brings back memories and they're good. I have purchased the violet many times but decided to try the others as well and they are all pretty good especially the lemon, reminds me of a smarty the peppermint isn't too strong and the guava is pretty good too. the only issue is the break. up so easily.

Very, very good old fashioned mints
I like Chowards mints! Very strong flavors. The lemon is very lemony and not super sweet like a candy. Not a pucker strength lemony, but excellent real lemon flavor. I haven't tried guava, peppermint or spearmint yet, but I'm already addicted to the violet and lemon. I like mints that are mints, not mildly flavored balls of sugar. The violet is strong enough you can smell it. These are old school mints. This automatically throws them into my favorites pile.

Package Problems.
Decent mints, but some were cracked and packages were busted.

Interesting Medley Starter Pack
These candies / mints are reminiscent of a "double-wide PEZ" in consistency and flavor... They're twice as wide as a usual PEZ, but very similar texture and flavor profiles. This particular Amazon item is a bagged set of FIVE flavors, TWO of each - PEPPERMINT - SPEARMINT - LEMON - GUAVA - VIOLET As you'll notice from my Video, I reported a taste test of each flavor to see how they compare. Here's my analysis: VIOLET - This one's their flagship flavor from which Charles Howard launched the company back in 1934 NYC. Tastes kind of like sucking on a flower... a very tasty flower, but definitely that violet taste! GUAVA - This is probably one of their newer flavors; I doubt anyone was thinking guava 80 years ago. It's a hint of flavor; kind of like drinking one of those complex fruit drinks you find for $8 at the mall LEMON - Not surprisingly, this one has a lemony flavor, but it's really more a HINT of LEMON... it's definitely not as strong as I expected, and it even takes a few seconds in the mouth to discern it is lemon. SO, if you're looking for a KICK of lemon, this won't be it. SPEARMINT - This one is definitely the most pronounced and clear of flavors in this set. It's a very full and familiar flavor of mint that freshens the taste buds and pleases the palate with its sweetness and gentle caress. PEPPERMINT - Peppermint, I would have expected to also be a pronounced flavor. Although it might be a tad STRONGER flavor than the spearmint, the peppermint seems a bit muddled of a flavor, and although it definitely has the mint in there, it also has a kind of VANILLA and a bit of some other STARCHY flavor mixed in. So... there you have it. As a starter C. Howards (or Chowards) taster, you can't go wrong with this set!!
