For Every Dog an Angel

Our vet sent this to us after the passing of our dog and since then we have given it as a gift multiple times.

I lost my ten-year old golden 1 1/2 years ago. She was not only my friend, but a part of my family. I miss her every day. If you feel you had a connection to your pet, this book will reconfirm those feelings. It gave me comfort and left me with a warm feeling in my heart about my lost friend. This book will make you smile and cry about the loss of your pet. The book is about the connection you have with your dog, and that not only do dogs have guardian angels, but they are our guardian angels. It is not a religious book, yet it will touch you deeply. I believe my friend is still with me, and now I know that I am not alone in that feeling. It made me smile, brought a tear to my eye, and comfort to my heart. A beautiful book.

I only have great things to say about this book. I originally received one as a gift when my dog died in 2007. Reading it gave me comfort and hope and helped make me even smile a bit. The art work is beautiful. Losing my dog, Munchie, hit me harder than I ever could have imagined it would have. The book is probably a 3 minute read and was a real emotional support. I still read it once in a while and have purchased at least 7 books since 2007 for friends who have lost a pet(it is published for people who have lost cats,too). Everyone has thanked me so much for sharing this with them. If you buy directly from the author, she'll sign your copy. Dont' hesitate to try it.

This is a small childlike story book, based on the idea that every dog/cat has a angel to watch over them. I'm a big animal lover and have lost many special dogs and cats over the years. The book is a very sweet touching story of the bond between human and dog with cute artwork photo's that capture the heart. I also bought the "cat" version of this book and it's just as lovely. I will buy it for all my friends.If you want a more factual Bible based book I also recommend the book "Do Dogs Go to heaven" by M. Jean Holmes..Both are great books and offer much comfort and hope to all of us who miss our special fur babies. I also love this book!! The Rainbow Bridge: Pet Loss Is Heaven's Gain

Recently we had to put one of our dogs to sleep. It was extremely difficult for our family, and we weren't sure how to explain death to our 3 year old. I tried to just tell him our dog had to go to the Doggy Doctor because something was wrong with his head, and wouldn't be able to come home again. He's a very smart little boy and has asked tons of questions, which I wasn't sure how to answer because sometimes children can take a concept and change it around in their brains and project it onto something totally different. I read through many reviews for books dealing with a pets death that would be good for a little one, and choose For Every Dog an Angel. While it's a fantastic book for little ones, it's a little advanced for a 3 year old. I think if a child was 5+ years old it would be perfect. Although the book wasn't a perfect fit for our little boy, I'm not taking any stars off because it truly is a great book to help children with the passing of their family dog. I also found it to be a fantastic story, due to its ability to fit any family, because it allows you to make it as religious or non-religious as you'd like, in regards to what an Angel means to your family. If you need help explaining death (and make it less painful) to a little one, this would be a great pick!

As an elementary school librarian and founder of a cat rescue organization, I am always looking for good humane education titles to add to my collection. This lovely little book is not only a must-read for people who have lost a beloved dog; it is a book that reminds us of the rewards of having that "forever-bond" with a special pet. With its emphasis on "forever" homes, we are reminded of the number of homeless animals out there who are ready to be someone's soul-mate if only given that chance. In our modern "throw-away" society, it is so rewarding to read a book that celebrates the joys of a permanent bond with, and committment to, a pet. This book is, I think, written for children, but I found it comforting too. I’ve sent it to several friends who had lost their pets and they all loved it.

Not everyone understands the loss of a pet can affect you as deeply as losing one of your own children. This book is for the people who 'get' it. I bought it originally for my husband's mother who lost her beloved dog, but he felt it was too juvenile to send to her. On the contrary, I found it sweet, whimsical and touching. I eventually gave it to a friend who was looking for a greeting card to send to another couple who had recently lost two dogs - They loved it. It is a small, short book, beautifully illustrated in watercolor and easily read by a wide range of ages. The only dissapointment I felt is that it is basically an expanded story of the Rainbow Bridge, which if you've gone through the pain of losing a pet, and are reading this, you have probably already read it on several websites. The book however puts it in a format that makes it convenient for giving to someone else instead of sympathy cards, which while there is more selection for pet-loss nowdays, simply don't cover it, or still come across as being written by someone who just doesn't understand what the fuss is about but feels the need to try and comfort the recipient.

It was bought for me when my beloved dog died and it was such a comfort to read it that i bought my friend one when she lost her great dane. It will make you cry but it will help to ease the pain..
