Great for the experience
My son has been talking about trying to make a boat in a bottle for a while now he’s very creative. I bought him this kit so he would learn the basics on how to do it firsthand instead of watching on YouTube. He loved it. I think it’s a great value for the price.

Y'arrrr not going to be disapointed!
I loved this model ship kit so much I bought 3! It also fits in a Captain Morgan Private stock bottle, made some excellent Christmas gifts with a pirate ship in a bottle :) Tip though: if you have never made a model before, this may seem tricky. You need to drill little holes and a little hand held jewelry drill will work. They are pretty cheap too. The directions that this kit comes with are excellent! It does come with a bottle, but I used those to make little pirates ships with my son out of clothes pins and other little pieces of balsa wood.

Cool set with good instructions
For less than $30 this is a great foot in the door if you want to learn how to build a ship in a bottle. Be prepared to go to hobby lobby for a tiny Wood drill set, some glue, some paint, and something to accent the bottle like runny pebbles or sand. I am using crushed sea glass. Drilling the holes in the masts is the most challenging part. But if you have modeling experience and a little creativity, I feel like this set will teach you the secret to making a ship and the bottle that you could then take and run with. *Tip use your drill to go all the way through the hull to set your pins for the tie downs. Cut the pins in half before inserting them

Need lots of tools and items to build this
Fairly difficult and you need a lot of tools and other items to accomplish this. My friend and I gave up half way through and just went off on our own sans directions. Possibly just not the target audience for this but 3/5 stars seems fair for my experience.

The ship is the size of a pocket knife
I am handy and can tackle most any project; however with this I met my match. I gave up halfway through the rigging process. Everything is so tiny it’s not even enjoyable. It’s comical how big the pins are that you are supposed to push into the hull, ie doing so the pins would go straight through the other side. If I get the nerve up again to try a ship in a bottle it will have to be one at least 3 times the size of this one.
