It uses a spring mechanism to hold your phone in and is compatible with just about every phone, not just an iPhone. The spring is strong and it is wide enough to hold wide phones like the iPhone 6s Plus with case. The mounting screw hole is metal which is what I was looking for. Plastic ones tend to strip and loosen after a while and those are a no sale. They should be recycled into something better.The base where the phone sits has foam. The top part is metal, it should be foam too. The metal is smooth and polished but because it has a tight grip, it may damage the finish after a while. However, this adaptor will screw into your tripod where you would normally mount your camera. It has springs inside to let you secure your phone into it. I have the iPhone 6, but it will also fit my husband's 6 plus, so I tak it would probably fit other styles of phone other than iPhones. I have used this mount multiple times since getting it. It helps me take my review videos when I need both hands free to demonstrate my products. I am so happy I decided to buy this adapter.
