Brings global macro trading down to earth for individual and professional traders, investors and asset managers, as well being a useful reference handbook Global Macro Trading is an indispensable guide for traders and investors who want to trade Global Macro โ it provides Trading Strategies and overviews of the four asset classes in Global Macro which include equities, currencies, fixed income and commodities. Greg Gliner, who has worked for some of the largest global macro hedge funds, shares ways in which an array of global macro participants seek to capitalize on this strategy, while also serving as a useful reference tool. Whether you are a retail investor, manage your own portfolio, or a finance professional, this book equips you with the knowledge and skills you need to capitalize in global macro. Provides a comprehensive overview of global macro trading, which consists of portfolio construction, risk management, biases and essentials to query building Equips the reader with introductions and tools for each of the four asset classes; equities, currencies, fixed income and commodities Arms you with a range of powerful global-macro trading and investing strategies, that include introductions to discretionary and systematic macro Introduces the role of central banking, importance of global macroeconomic data releases and demographics, as they relate to global macro trading Review: Overall though this has been a great reference to learn more about areas I do not ... - In all honesty I wasn't expecting a book of this magnitude. It was helpful beyond all measure, while it does not go into depth on certain topics it is VERY VERY thorough in introducing main themes prevalent in Macro Trading and the intermarket correlations. What was interesting is Greg actually tries to quantify all aspects of risk in order for us traders to see how he manages it. While I would have preferred a stronger section on Modern Portfolio Theory the only detraction I can think of is in his foreign exchange section. I don't believe enough breadth was put into this section for the primary reasons. Yield Curves and the role of the central bank - hardly any mention if at all a mention An in depth section on Q.E. and it's effects. ERM - I think there is a small paragraph on it. Overall though this has been a great reference to learn more about areas I do not have experience in such as commodities. I will DEFINETLY buy more books of Greg Gliners in the future. Fantastic ability to present new materials. Review: A very good introductory book on Global Macro trading - A very good introductory book on Global Macro trading. Anyone with an interest in this wonderful trading strategy would benefit from this book. Whether you want to start trading Global Macro, integrate certain Global Macro overlays into your discretionary method or start investing in Global Macro funds this book will benefit you. Experienced practitioners will not benefit greatly from reading this book. But may by handing it out to current and future investors.

A MUST buy!
I can't believe it! Whoever this author is, he is fantastic. I was in a middle class bracket and I keep winning with the book. I have three children and my family is so much better off. I have tried other reads but could not get the returns that I needed. I am going to write this author. If you are looking for a way to trade that has vast returns, I highly recommend this book. Very well written an understandable. I truly feel this book can change anyone's life.

Worth the money
This book is an excellent source for anyone interested in understanding different areas of investing as well as how to asses global macroeconomic conditions when looking into potential trades/investments. The Bloomberg shortcuts are also very useful. I keep this book close by whenever I am conducting research and trying to understand macro risks.

Decent Read For Those New To Macro But Not Much New For The Seasoned Trader
Gliner has an impressive background, having formerly worked at AQR and Tudor Investment Corp. Considering his resume I was a little disappointed in how shallow the book digs into the subject of Global Macro. All in all, it's not a bad book, hence the three stars. It's a decent cursory overview of the macro game, just don't expect to come away with something new if you're familiar the topic. Great for those just starting out but I wouldn't recommend it to a seasoned speculator. If you're interested in something with more substance then I'd suggest sticking with the classics and reading Soros' Alchemy... Lefevre's Reminiscences... Dalio's/Bridgewater's whitepaper on How the Economic Machine Works... Sperandeo's Trader Vic... Schwager's Market Wizard series... Brandt's Diary of a Professional Commodities Trader... and both books by Drobny. Also, if you're interested in macro trading specifically, then I'd highly recommend checking out the work done by Macro Ops. They have some good links/books/references macro trading resources. Here's a breakdown of how the book is structured. Overview of Global Macro: Overview of Global Macro Strategies Trading Process, Sizing Trades & Monitoring Performance Back-tests, Queries & Analogs Building blocks of Global Macro Trading (Equities, Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, Commodities) Technical Analysis Systematic Trading Global Macro Trading Foundation: Foreign Exchange in Global Macro Equities Fixed Income Commodities The Role of Central Banks in Global Macro Economic Data Releases and Demographics One particular section of the book that I found helpful though, was Gliner's section on query building and monitoring one's own performance. He suggests including a 'conviction level' that ranges from 1-10 on one's trade log. I've long toyed with doing something similar and think the idea could be really helpful to assessing your decision-making abilities over time. Here's Gliner on the subject: โLetโs assume a 0-10 scale, where 0 is no conviction and 10 is the highest conviction. If for instance, a pattern emerges where you are making money on most of your lower-conviction trades (5-6 score) and losing money on your high-conviction trades (8-10), this could be indicative of a confirmation bias. Conversely, if you are consistently losing money on your low-conviction trades, perhaps you should stick to high-conviction ideas.โ Overall, decent book. Good starting point for those looking to dip their toes into the global macro game. But if you're intimately familiar with macro then you won't find much new here.

Worth a read
This book had a ton of great information and really gave great depth into what global macro is all about. I am mainly a technical trader and don't pay too much attention to fundamentals so some of this stuff was way over my head and I didn't have a deep desire to learn about. I'll definitely give it a second read through after I finish hedge fund market wizards. www.engulfingthemarket.com

A great balanced read that both the sophisticated trader/investor will reference as well as the novice can learn from and thoroughly enjoy. Provides an easy to read and interesting balanced perspective in an environment where macro has become increasingly important to incorporate into ones investment process. Highly recommend!

Disappointing!
I was hoping the author would share his experience and knowledge about global macro. Instead, this book contains a bunch of investment basics, that everyone can find from free sources on the internet. I learned nothing about global macro trading from this book! I'd recommend: 1) Expected Returns: An Investor's Guide to Harvesting Market Rewards by Antti Illmanen 2) Efficiently Inefficient: How Smart Money Invests and Market Prices Are Determined by Lasse Heje Pedersen Cheers!
