Love it!
I got the first Disgaea off the PSN and loved that. Spent a good 100 or so hours on it, didn't really get into the endgame content too much. Wanted to jump up a few games in the series to see what advancements they'd made, so I got Disgaea 4 (it was only $20, so I thought, "Why not?") and absolutely loved it too. All of the additions to the game really add to it, and I think I clocked in about 200+ hours before it started to wear down. Went through most of the endgame content, aside from the ridiculous stuff like Land of Carnage, but I might come back to it again to do just that. The characters are are a lot of fun, not as good as the original Disgaea, but still solid. Game still has the same wacky humor from the original too. It arrived on time with no issues and worked fine straight out of the case. This has me looking forward to the next Disgaea game with all the cool improvements they added.

I'm loving it
This is a fantastic game. I bought it new, it arrived immaculate, there wasn't a wrinkle in the shrink wrap. If you enjoy strategy style games, you'll enjoy this. If you like Disgaea, you'll love it. If you happen to be a fan of Machete's and Penguins, this is definitely a series you can get into. While this title is a bit more serious than others I've played, it doesn't lack on humor, though it does feel a bit forced at points. The Characters are entertaining and the Create-a-Character is better than ever, especially with the magichange and evilities available. If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, don't let that dissuade you from giving this a try; They explain everything very simply and thoroughly. I thought it was an overwhelming amount of things I'd have to learn when I got it, but it is honestly very intuitive and adds a lot to the game. Enjoy Disgaea fans, you are number one!

Many improvements, but not quite as charming as previous titles
Let me preface this review by saying that I still consider Disgaea 4 to be an AMAZING game compared to other sRPGs outside of the series. The Disgaea franchise is known for its quirky sense of humor and amazingly deep combat system. Disgaea 4 does an excellent job of keeping up with that. Pros: +Keeps the core battle system of the Disgaea series but adds some much needed improvements. (Magichange is improved from D3 for example) +Wide array of classes (although not as many as you would hope- more on that later) +Charming characters +Cute storyline (but lacking slightly in depth) Cons: -Many classes from previous games are entirely missing, and they don't really have a good equivalent introduced. There are new classes, but many of them are just okay and I rarely found myself using them. (On a side note, you can get some of the classes from previous games but it requires the purchase of DLC) -The characters are cute and charming, but not as memorable as those from previous games. In fact, the game actually relies on bringing some characters back from previous titles as part of the main storyline. I don't mind that, but it definitely overshadows the original D4 characters and makes one realize that they aren't really comparable. -The storyline is probably the least compelling/cohesive of any Disgaea game (with the possible exception of Disgaea 3). It was cute and it did the job, but it just lacked some of the nuance that made earlier titles so memorable. Overall, great game in the series and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys sRPGs. There are some minor complaints, but they definitely aren't enough to detract from the fun! Overall, GREAT game and I highly recommend it.

Decent game
I found this game decently fun. The game for the most part was what I expected of a turn-based strategy rpg. You can find descriptions of the game mechanics elsewhere, and the purpose of my review is just to give you my impressions. 1. Story: The story parodies rpgs and is light-hearted. The characters very often refer to terms like final bosses and leveling. The humor is quirky, and I thoroughly enjoyed the humor throughout the story. 2. Strategy: The game as expected is very heavy on tactics and has a lot of depth. This is especially true if you just try to go through the story mode without much grinding. Still, the game didn't feel difficult and there were only a couple of points in the story where I felt I needed to spend some hours grinding to level-up my characters to progress further. I would recommend not spending much time grinding as this will essentially remove the strategy aspect to this game. Level-up your characters or their equipment too much, and your characters will avoid almost all enemy attacks or take zero damage even if they get hit. In addition to the story characters that you can use in your party, there is a wide selection of generic characters that you can use in your battles. 3. Graphics: The main focus of this type of game is strategy, so I was not expecting graphics like Uncharted. The characters during the story cut-scenes have a lot of personality. In the turn-based battles, though, they seem more like just icons, and I found them somewhat underwhelming. For some reason, there are only a few set viewpoints for the battles which I found annoying as it wasn't always easy to tell where one character was in relation to another depending on the complexity of the terrain. 4. Fun: I found going through the story mode decently fun. In addition, there is a post-game where you can continue to level your characters and equipment and where you can gain additional characters to join your party. The story in the post-game is barebones though and seems more about just grinding to see if you can max stats to achieve trophies. I think the post-game could be better implemented as trying to get some of the achievements involves loading a game, entering battle and seeing if some rare event is randomly triggered. If not, then quit, reload and try again until the event is triggered. You literally will need to repeat this process 10 to 100 times in a roll in the hopes of triggering some events. After a while, I realized me playing the game had devolved to me just loading, quitting and reloading the game over and over again. Overall, Disgaea was a decently fun game while going through the story. There is a good amount of strategy involved as long as you don't grind too much and over-level your characters. Characters have personality, but the graphics are somewhat underwhelming during the turn-based battles. Lastly, I really didn't find the post-game much fun as it seemed mostly about grinding.

I really love this game, so addicting!
Level nine-thousand, nine-hundred and ninety nine? Monster weapons? Addicting gameplay that you wouldn't mind grinding with? All there, in this game! It's a really fun strategy game, with endless things to do! And the gameplay is almost like Final Fantasy Tactics...and for those who have played that game, you'll REALLY love this one! The characters are lovable and the story is very deep, and I don't think I can see anything wrong with this game. Insane numbers that only NIS could ever make, and-oh, it's just too addicting. I end up playing for hours! I'm just gushing all over this review. It's just a really addicting game!

all of which was like watching paint dry
Wish I could give it zero stars. Technology was a step above Pong but a step below the original Final Fantasy. Spent three hours with it and was still in the tutorial, all of which was like watching paint dry.

Played all of the series and meh
I watched many videos and read many reviews and this game looked promising. I have played all of the Disgaea games and own them all. I liked the fact that they finally upgraded the graphics. This was a much needed improvement. The concept of the campaign manager screen was a cool concept that was implemented poorly. The biggest aggravating game breaking flaw for me was the entire mana system. Everything in the game uses this resource called mana which can only be acquired by getting the LAST hit/kill on an enemy unit. There is also a building on the campaign manager that you can group up three units to share 50% of kills, which helps a little, but marginally. Unlike every other game in the series you cannot just make general progression into the characters strength by fighting. You have to train their skills now with mana. You also can no longer have a pupil/master system to have toons learn each others spells. From what I understand you have to go into their character world and get it there for some ridiculous mana cost. I never got that far. With these ridiculous aspects to mana it makes the game far from enjoyable. It's a very counter intuitive system. You have to baby sit which toon you want to kill the final blow to get mana which completely takes the fun out of combat. Add in a terrible camera system and screen clutter and the game has no appeal. I lost all interest.

Lmao
Are you kidding me...First Disgea game I have ever played and you get thrown into some crazy combos, tower attacks. Counter-Counter-Counter-Counter-Counter attacks, Fusions, making your allies turn into weapons and then attacking like a madman...Reaching Lvl 9999 doing millions in damage. This game is absurd. If you like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Anime, Sardines or just a calm relaxed paced rpg then this is an absolute no brainier, got it dood i'm telling you to buy it.
