## Description

Product Description ReliefPak Moist Heat Packs are the ideal solution to ease aches and pains from arthritis, back pain, muscle strains, stiff neck, sprains, stiff joints, bruises, general soreness and spasms. Why? Because moist heat is better than dry heat and a Moist Heat Pack is more effective than a heating pad. Moist heat is superior in deeper tissue heating and penetrates more than dry heat at the same temperature. Moist heat also changes tissue temperature rapidly. Patients often report quicker relief from moist heat and moist heat has been proven to speed recovery by increasing blood flow to a specific area. From less than an hour in either the stove, microwave or another heating unit, the heat pack delivers up to 30 minutes of hot, moist, therapeutic relief. Once heated and ready to use, handle the pack by the corner tab. Be sure to wrap the heated pack in a towel or covering before use. So versatile, these moist heat packs help treat acute pain, chronic pain, relieve aches and ease soreness and stiffness. They are ideal for recovery use post-injury and post-workout, containing material that conforms to any body part and is pliable when heated, unlike heating pads which can be difficult to maneuver. ReliefPak Moist Heat Packs are designed for use at home or in multi-user environments like clinics, spas, gyms and training rooms. That’s why they’re highly recommended by physiotherapists, physicians, chiropractors, athletic trainers and kinesiologists. The pros know what works best. These heat packs are safe for adults and children and are easy to travel with. To use, simply heat and place on the area to be treated using either a towel or cover. Expected usage will dictate how to care and store the heat pack. If it’s expected the pack is going to be used for regular or frequent treatments, it should be kept in water, either in the heating unit or in a covered pot on the stove. If the pack is expected to be idle and stored for an extended period of time, it should be kept moist and cold. In those instances, place the wet pack in a plastic bag, seal it and store it in the freezer. Please note, heat packs are Latex-free. Manufacturer Contact Information 800-431-2830

Review: MUST HAVE product if you have chronic pain! - This is a must have product if you have back or joint pain! Be sure to read ALL instructions before first use! Basic Care Instructions: 1. Upon receiving item, prior to first use, heat in a pan of water and allow to sit for 2 hours 2. If used daily, keep in water 3. If used 1 or 2 times a week, store in refrigerator 4. If item will not be used weekly, store in freezer As you can see from the Care Instructions listed above, this item requires a specific care routine to maintain it's maximum effectiveness. Prior to first use, item has regular intervals of pockets that are filled with a dry, absorbent, clay like, material. It takes approximately 2 hours in hot water to allow the pellets to absorb the water and have maximum heat retention. Once the item has been prepped and used the first time, it will heat and be ready for use quickly. I purchased this item for home use after completing physical therapy in a medical facility which used similar products. Unlike the medical facility, I do not have a Hydrocollator machine. This is where the basic care instructions above come in, as I use a stovetop method to heat item. I use a tall stainless steel stock pot pan with a lid to heat and store item and leave on the stove top during times that I need daily therapy. If you use daily, heating water to boiling would kill any bacteria or mold that may collect on the item or in water. As my pain decreased, I only used the item 1 or 2 times a week, during this type of weekly therapy, after use, when item at cooled, I rolled up item and placed in a plastic bag and stored in refrigerator to reduce bacterial or mold growth. When needed, I simply heated again in my stock pan. Once I no longer needed a minimum of 1X/week, I stored my item in plastic bags but placed in the freezer. Once item has been stored in freezer for a period of time, expect heating time to increase after removing item from freezer for 1st use to ensure item is heated to it's core. The loops attached to each end make it easy to remove heated product from pan, I use 2 wooden spoons, looping on the spoon handle. I Raise the item, allow excess water to drip of for a few seconds, then place product on a large beach towel I have waiting laid out on counter. I then wrapped the beach towel around product securely. This is a very absorbent product, once you allow excess water to drip off it does not "leak" out. However to protect surfaces from "steam" moisture, I recommend placing a towel or pillow behind the item. After using product, skin is moist and warm, not wet; it produces a similar effect on surfaces. However, it is not wet. This item gets VERY HOT and requires appropriated insulated wrap before placing on skin. After I wrap item in towel, I then fold large fluffy bath towels in half and place over the side that will be placed on skin. Normally, I use the beach towel, then three folded bath towels between my skin and the product. I place the wrapped product on a flat pillow against the back of my recliner. Once positioned, I recline and let the heat do it's job. Using this insulated method, I get about 30 minutes of heat time, then i remove 1 of the folded bath towels, and get another 10-15 minutes. Using this method, I get about 45 minutes to 1 hour of therapeutic heat. This is a personal preference and can be adjusted to individual needs. Overall, this is a great product, especially if you have chronic pain that responds to moist heat. This is also a great product if you use a TENS unit. Apply TENS unit per instructions, then place hydrocollator pack over the TENS pads and increase therapeutic action! I would recommend this product to anyone experiencing chronic pain which responds to heat! I would not recommend this product to people who are looking for occasional heat therapy, as the basic care instructions would prohibit the best use of the item.
Review: Best Heating Pad for Chronic Pain - This is the best heat pad for people living with chronic pain. I use my electric heating pad in a pinch but it doesn’t compare to this type of heat. My physical therapy clinic uses these for warming up my spine and SI joints. I finally decided to purchase one for at home and it’s perfect for rough pain days. One thing to note, this holds moisture so once you’re done using it, store it in the freezer so it doesn’t grow mold. It fits in a gallon ziplock and it only takes about 10 minutes to warm up once you put it on the stove in water. I use towels instead of the covers and they work great.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can these packs be heated in a large hot towel cabinet instead of a hydroculator?**
A: I heat mine in a large oval slow cooker (Crock Pot) on the “Warm” setting, and use a pair of cooking tongs to both remove a heated pack and to push a used back into the water for reheating. During a continuous course of therapy, the pack can be left in the slow cooker on “Warm” whenever it’s not in use, so it’s always ready to go.

Don’t use the “Low” setting or you may burn your skin. For that reason, the recommendation to “boil” a pack is not only not necessary, but could make this pack dangerously hot—and it might damage the pack over time, shortening its useful life.

FYI, some small clinics use slow cookers instead of the large commercial water baths that can hold multiple packs.

I was surprised to see that a rehab supplies seller said to put it in a hot towel cabinet. I would recommend confirming that with the manufacturer before trying it. These packs are designed to be used wet, and you’re not supposed to ever let them dry out after the first use, which a hot towel cabinet would almost certainly do. I would definitely NEVER microwave one while dry (as you would a rice pack).

Also, either get a cover that is designed for one of these or wrap it in a thin towel before applying it to the treatment area—you normally wouldn’t want to put it directly in contact with your skin.

**Q: How do you store this between uses at home? I have been told to freeze it so it stays moist and does not mold. Is that correct?**

**Q: Can you use it as a cold pack?**
A: After you soak it for the first time, there's no reason why you can't use it as a cold pack.

**Q: Is this to big for shoulders?**
A: Its too cumbersome for a shoulder you need to use the cervical. It can be used for the hip, wrapping it around.

### ⭐ Im sorry I cannot give this more stars.
*by A***C on July 10, 2024*

Where to begin. I bought this because it looked just like the one at my physical therapy center and it stated it was used by therapists. However, I wish they would have been more realistic in the listing, although its not acurate either. Lets start by the listing stating 30 min of heat. Then when it arrives you see the front of the bag state only 20 min, but the reality is 15 min at best with quickly losing heat at min 10-11 onward. But thats not the worst part. Wow, I underestimated the enormous amount of hard work this would be to heat! Ive tried 3x and I still have not been able to do it as they want you to. To let it slowly build up to 160 on a stovetop in a large vessel (so my review is about the largest size 24in), this would take HOURS and a thermometer. It took me 2 hrs each night and I still wasnt able to get a steady heat (yes for all of 12-15 min. I spent the last 3 days saoking it becuase the water was so murkey and dirty that i assumed it was the red and black handles seaping color, NOPE, its the sand coming out of the stitching. I had not seen the reviews that showed this and simply went by the stars it had. As you can see in photos the sand would start seaping out of the seams every time Id drsain the water. The only other alternative to heating the pad for what seems like an eternity on the stove is in the microwave but they dont mention that you cant really do that with the larger sizes as you need to put it in water compeletly submerged. Is there any vessles of a minimum of 7 quarts apt for a microwave? And how long would you have to microwave it in all that water? When you get the instructions they recommnet you KEEP IT (yes - as in stored) in water? Or a heat/steam machine. Well, this is only meant for therapists! They should really highlight this on the listing. How many people have this much time or a warmer at home? I dont know if my product was defective but regardless it is very high maintenence that I really wish they explained its preparation better and not waste peoples time. Very disappointing.
