With DIGITUS, you are always ready for the digital future! Fibre optic patch cable options from DIGITUS The DIGITUS fibre optic patch cable range includes the cable types OS2, OM3, OM4 and OM5. OS stands for Optical Singlemode and OM for Optical Multimode. OS fibre optic cables transport only one beam of light and achieve speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s over a maximum distance of 10 km. In contrast, OM cables can transmit several light beams simultaneously through the fibre core. They are mainly used for shorter distances of up to about 550 m. The transmission speed here also depends on the distance. For example, OM4 cables can transmit up to 10 Gbit/s over a distance of 400 m, while they can even reach up to 100 Gbit/s over shorter distances of around 150 m. Overview of fibre optic connectors When it comes to fibre optic connector types, you can choose between the following designs: SC, LC, ST, E2000 and MPO. DIGITUS also offers cables with different connectors at each end, for example in the combinations LC/SC or SC/ST. The most common connectors are SC and LC, with LC being a smaller version of the SC connector. Both connector types are used with singlemode and multimode fibre optic cables. The APC (Angled Physical Contact) versions of the cables have a specially polished ferrule to minimise the back reflection of the light beam, for example for use in high-performance networks.
