You can cut the fingertips curve. Use strong domestic stainless steel cutlery to rust. Handle with a collar to prevent slippage of the hand, you can work safely and easy to grasp. Review: Best tool to break down boxes! - I was using a serrated steak knife to break down boxes because it is safer than a box knife and I think easier to use for that purpose. It worked very well and it was fast. Then I started doing research to find something even better. A lot of people like the Kershaw Leek which lists for over $100 and it is definitely not as safe as a steak knife. The I came across the Canary and I have always been impressed with the Japanese when it comes to knives (and many other products) .For $8 it was worth a shot. It exceeded my expectations and I just ordered another one to keep in my kitchen. It is faster and easier than the steak knife and very safe. It is thin and teflon coated so out slides in underneath a box flap and cuts the tape easily, then I plunge cut the tape the length of the box and make a turn when I get to the end without stopping to cut underneath the flap on one side, and because the knife is double sided I can move it back the other way and cut the tape on the other flap with out turning the knife around. This process is so fast and smooth it blows away the steak knife! If the box is really big then I cut the cardboard up in smaller pieces. I was surprised how well the Canary works for this, way better than expected. You can just pull it through the cardboard and it will cut it but it works better if you saw back and forth. Other reviews say it cuts cardboard like butter and that is a bit of an exaggeration but it does an excellent job.
Review: Great product - Worked great. I had to make a cardboard box car for my child. This made it so much easier than using just a razor blade. I was even able to cut circles for the wheels, just traced it first and then followed the line.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it possible that the blade can easily cut your hand like a regular knife?**
A: Unlike a regular knife, this won't cut you if you grab it by the wrong end or bump into someone while carrying it. But while cutting using a sawing motion if a finger got in the way you would be hurt. If using with children in a classroom I recommend a mesh safety glove.

**Q: What is the blade length?**
A: 3.5 inches, but about .5 inches has no teeth near the handle.

**Q: Does DC-190F-1 (yellow color with black coating)comes with sheath?**
A: Yes, but its just a loose plastic slip on. Not substantial. I love this cutter though. There is an orange one without the non stick coating with the blade protector. I like that one two. These cutters are the best. It makes breaking down boxes very manageable for a senior like me. so easy to saw right through boxes into pieces..

**Q: Do these come with a case to cover the blade when not in use?**
A: No --- I use a length of PVC pipe from the Junk bin at home depot. The blade is wedged in at the bottom. This covers the whole piece except for 2 inches on the handle. The pipe is open, so if the knife is jammed, a tap of the screwdriver will pop it out.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little tool, very handy!
*by F***A on September 5, 2025*

I bought this a year ago on a whim after hearing somebody mention how much they loved this thing for opening packages. And it is perfect for that, does it well, and takes up little room and is not very expensive. But I now live in a world where cardboard boxes just accumulate, seemingly every day, and I need to get them into the recycling without taking up much room. That's where this gizmo shines! After opening cardboard packages and cutting through all the tape, I just slice up the boxes on their four corner edges and end up with four flat pieces of cardboard. I stack em up flat so they take little room and into the recycling they go! I love it, no crushing or trying to fit the boxes together like a puzzle, just a pile of flat cardboard. Easy! I have only one criticism, and that is that the flimsy sheath has no rigidity and is not good for storing the cutter as is. I taped mine to the thin cardboard product packaging by wrapping it with cello-tape in a few places, and now it sits in my pencil cup on my desk, ready to go when needed, but hiding the edges from fingers and other things. The makers should sell it with a sturdier sheath. And I do regret it a bit that I did not buy two of them, one for the desk and one for the kitchen to store in the knife drawer. No real complaints, I love it when I find a great tool at a good price, and love it even more when I find myself using it all the time to make life easier.
