The Haunting of Hill House

Ever since Occulus came out in 2013, I have been keeping an eye on Mike Flanagan's work and Haunting of hill house not only met my expectations it went beyond them. Haunting of hill house follows the Crain family, we bounce back and forth between the early 90's to the present (which was 2018 I think) and how one summer at hill house changed their lives and not for the better. Flanagan has a way of making his characters rich with development and given the 10 episode arc he has here we are able to see them in all their beautiful, flawed glory. It works because the storyline is engaging and the characters suck you in by being well human and real, these are not one-note stereotypes you often find in your typical horror stories. Between the fantastic acting, the solid scripts, the house itself, and the reveal of the bent-neck lady which is one of the most shocking reveals I've seen in a long time, can more than suggest this for anyone interested in deeply layered wonderful ghost stories. The product itself is fine, as described and got here on time so all good.

i love this series. at first glance it is a thriller. second and third watches you see the hidden ghosts. fourth and fifth you see the deeper meanings. this is the best of the haunting series.

There really isn't much to that other positive reviews haven't already said. The Haunting of Hill House is more than mindless horror and is a deep/psychological study into the lives of five kids turned adults and their parents. Each character has depth, and the plotline surprised me a few times. I was also moved by the ending and think it was a positive choice to end the story the way Mike Flannagan did. I also have to give p props the actors for their portrayals; the cinematography also made the show creepy of engaging to look at. The series has proven divisive because it's not a direct adaptation to Shirley Jackson's original novel; it's more of a loose homage to it. However, I found the Netflix series worth viewing/ owning; it definitley resonated with me.

This is not the original story that Shirley Jackson wrote, so do not watch thinking that it is the same as her book. Having said that, this is a good and very scary homage to Jackson's work. Beautifully filmed with all the gothic touches one would hope for with excellent performances by the entire cast, all of whom were perfectly cast, older and younger counterparts alike.

An absolute masterpiece. The ensemble acting, the story, the cinematography, the direction, the score - all just excellent. It should have been awarded every award conceivable for a tv-series. It has no peers! Respect to the child actors, they were amazing!!

I've always enjoyed the original Hill House book, and the old movie, but this series takes the story to a whole new level. Don't look for the original book or movie, you'll be disappointed...but stay open to the new characters (whose names mirror the book) and enjoy this profound and deeply felt story. I've watched the whole series at least 8 times since it came out, and it hits different each time I watch...and I always cry at the end! This series addresses close-to-the-heart aspects of home, family, secrets, paranormal activity, and mental illness, all in a way that isn't hokey or patronizing. There is no slasher-style gore (I won't watch that) but there are plenty of jump scares and some intense scenes.

A very handsomely produced and acted mini-series. Production design, cinematography, acting, music and sound design are great throughout. It kind of takes Shirley Jackson's story and turns it on it head, which was interesting but to me led to an unsatisfactory conclusion. I won't spoil it by saying why, because this really should be seen. If for nothing else, the floating guy with the canes.

very impressive new modernised updatet Hill House TV Mini serie…???? Not too Bloody as American Horror Stories but still Amazing...???? Great to see henry Thomas ( E.T ) and Timothy Hutton are the Main Actors …? Awesome Storyline with a view Horror/Chills running down your Back...? More for Adults a bit slow paced with lots and lots of surprises...???? Very character Driven little Masterpiece.....? Highly recomendet…? Hill House is the most Haunted House in the World...

El DVD ha llegado en mal estado, que sea el cartón del DVD, o bien la tapa de plástico por fuera y por dentro. El precintado de plástico estaba en la tapa de plástico pero no en el cartón. Parece que se ha utilizado. Se pide hoy un reemplazo de Amazon y devuelvo este. Espero que llegue bien esta vez...

Esta serie es un gran drama familiar y horror bien logrado. Varios episodios vienen en su versión extendida y con audio comentario del director Mike Flanagan, el problema es que no trae subtítulos más que en inglés, por eso las 4 estrellas.

A good old fashioned ghost story . More creepy than gory and with lots of wonderful contemporary characters all of whom are well developed by the end.
