Definitely worth a purchase if you are just starting out!
Well worth the money and an absolute must for anyone starting out with SMD soldering. After recently mangling a circuit board on a rather expensive device, I decided it was time to get some proper practice in. In hindsight, I definitely should have bought this kit before attempting real-world soldering. The kit comes with a generous assortment of resistors, capacitors, diodes, LEDs, transistors, and ICs. The first section features six practice columns where the components get progressively smaller from left to right, which is perfect for building up your confidence and skill. A detailed datasheet is included, showing the quantities, placement, and orientation of each part. There’s even a small amount of solder provided. Once completed, the circuit lights up in a rotating, flashing “flow lamp” pattern, which is a satisfying reward for your effort. At first, I found it a bit intimidating. Staring at all those tiny parts, I wasn’t sure where to begin. Then I noticed the layout and started from the left with the larger components. The parts list helped me separate the practice components from those used in the final circuit, and soon enough I got into a rhythm. My method was to tin one pad, hold the component in place with tweezers, heat the pad until it settled, and then solder the other side. The first few were tricky, but after a few sessions I could see real improvement. By the time I reached the smallest capacitors in the fifth column, I was soldering them almost perfectly. This kit has taught me a huge amount about SMD soldering. I even upgraded my tools with better flux, tweezers, and a new iron. My first pair of tweezers were awful, and one resistor went flying across the room, but thankfully the kit includes spares. For the price, I couldn’t be happier. I’m even tempted to buy another one to practice hot air soldering next. Thanks to this kit, I now feel confident working on handheld devices that I never would have touched before. For beginners, it’s a fun and affordable way to learn. It’s cheaper than Lego, but just as enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Pretty good
This is pretty good the outside areas are just for solder practice and the inside part is an actual working circuit, which I found very helpful. This is something I would definitely recommend to someone just learning. The instructions are ok and tell you the information you need to know. Like which way round the led goes. I would say you either need an eye loop or a microscope for this cus the components are very very small. Especially the practice parts. Nice and cheap.

Challenging with no instructions but rewarding
I purchased this as a novice to the world of smd soldering but wanted a practice board before starting a proper project involving soldering surface mount components. So in the little packet, I received a PCB and a bag of unlabelled components. As a novice it wasn't very helpful to receive a product with unlabelled components and no instructions. Firstly, I had to work out what the components were and where they should be soldered. OK, the resistors are easy enough but capacitor values, installing the led's and diodes wasn't easy for a novice. So a fair bit of time was spent online doing research. Although there are instructions online it wasn't helpful that the resistors in the main clock circuit supplied were 470ohm rather than 1K specified in an online manual. And some video's said they had 330ohm. Needless to say this was a bit confusing but it turns out the 470ohn resistors worked out just fine. Other online videos suggested installing the cylinder diodes opposite to the direction on the board. Not so I found. Follow the polarity on the board for the led's & diodes and the board works just fine. Another confusing point was that the picture shows blue and red led's. Turns out all those supplied in my kit were red. Even more confusing is that they are coloured with a green band which denotes the cathode. There are several columns of components to install resistors and capacitors of different sizes. These are great and what I liked about this part of the board is that by using a multi-meter it is possible to check that each component is installed correctly as you can check the capacitance or resistance as each is installed. A nice touch. The size of components decreases across the board too which is good for training. I amazed myself by successfully soldering in the smallest resistors. I should say a magnifier headset is a real aid to soldering these components. Although initially it was a bit frustrating to receive the product with no instructions it was actually quite rewarding to do the research and end up building a working product. OK my soldering of the IC's is not neat at all but hey it worked first time. I also recommend using flux as this really helps. Another nice touch was that a small amount of solder was supplied with the kit. This melted really easily and so much better than a high tin 0.3mm solder I purchased. The high tin solder I purchased turned out to be rubbish so I used a combination of the solder they supplied with the kit and some lead solder I had from years back. Both worked well. I don't recommend using a high tin, thin solder as the product I had needed a really high temperature and often came detached from the pads. In summary, it s challenge but do some research and take your time and it'll prove very rewarding. Oh and my proper project turned out OK and I tackled it with confidence after having completed this practice board successfully.

Good practice board
What can I say this is a good practice board but omg with my bad eyesight I needed more than a telescope. The SMD bits are extremely small which I already knew they were so I was a little prepared. What I can say is exactly what others have said and that there is no instructions with this board. Which for a practice board lets it down. However I did find a YouTube 3 parter showing how to put it together and also someone else had written a blog page of which bits goes where. Search on YouTube for "smd practice kit" by Gadgetboy. Watch all three parts as he did make a mistake and it'll save you from the same thing by watching them all first. The blog I found was by searching for "instructables circuits SMD Soldering Practice Kit" The rest is up to you i.e. the soldering. To be honest it turned out a lot easier than I thought. Having watched the YouTube video, got an idea on how to tackle it. I managed to get the LED to chase the circle, but I couldn't get the four corners to work, so I have done something wrong. But the main reason for buying this was to practice the soldering and desoldering of SMD parts. I soldered a 9v battery connector to it and plugged a 9v battery on it. Would I recommend this, yes it is a good soldering practice board and if you get it to work then thats a bonus.

Fun little project
I bought this specifically to get better at surface mount soldering before tackling more expensive boards. Honestly, it’s exactly what I needed. Just a heads up—the components are tiny, so you definitely need fine-tip tweezers and maybe a magnifying glass if your eyes aren't great. The instructions were a little sparse, but the PCB is labeled well enough that you can figure out where the capacitors and resistors go without much trouble. It took me about an hour to put together. It was super satisfying to plug it in and actually see the LEDs spin. Great value for the practice time.

Great hobby
Great for practice in soldering. Loads of tiny bits and easy to read instructions. Id recommend the use of a tray as the bits are very small.

Would recommend
This is an excellent board to practice soldering - with all the components needed. The outer section is purely for practice, but the central section actually works. On the reverse is a hand ruler/size guide.
