Don't Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings: Madea's Uninhibited Commentaries on Love and Life

I am already a big fan of Madea from watching her plays. When I found out she had a book I decided to find it on CD. Since I commute about 1 hour to work everyday I needed something to keep me entertained when music wouldn't suffice. Although there are parts of the book that aren't very substantial, Madea's reading of the book will keep you laughing all the way through. I especially liked the parts regarding "Vaseline" and "throwing your frisbee". The strange thing is, amongst all of the comical content, Madea does offer some sound common-sense, home-spun advice. And if you're a big fan of Madea I suggest you buy the plays on DVD. The movies contain less of Madea's personality, but the plays are crazy-funny and the music they contain is quite good. Made never lets you down.

I listen to this again and again while im working it helps my day go by so much faster and it def makes it a little brighter

Tyler Perry has impressed us once again with him great take on the well known, loud-mouth black women, Madea. This time it is not a movie, or a musical, its a book. A book about the ways of living life through the eyes of Madea. It includes countless hours non stop laugh out loud enjoyment. I am a musical theatre artist (actor, singer and dancer) so i can appreciate a good character when i see one. Even if your not interested in reading, trust me, you won't want to put the book down! I give it five stars, well thought out and hilarious. And hey, you'll never know, maybe you could actually learn a thing or two from Madea, it is filled with amazing tips for the real world and life. Okay, so I purchased this book and read the reviews. I read the bad comments and thought it couldn't be that bad and you can't please everyone. I fully believed that I would be one of those who found this book hilarious. I was wrong. I barely chuckled more than twice. At first I was really disappointed and I had already began to write my bad review in my mind. I mean, this is suppose to be Madea!!!! I LOVE Madea!!! When she speaks, I laugh. It's almost like a reflex. But nope, didn't laugh at all. Thought some of it was a bit corny. Well, I finished the book and decided that it failed miserably if it was supposed to make me laugh. But....DAMN!!! It helped me to remember what was important. Forget the laughter. The words of wisdom that I got from this book was more important than laughing. Sure, many of the things said were things I'd heard before, but sometimes you need to be reminded. There were issues that were directly related to my own life. Like I said, some of it was corny and over done. BTW, Vaseline (which is simply a brand name for petroleum jelly) should give Tyler/Madea a life time supply or some stock in the company, LOL. If you can ignore the outrageous exaggerations and actually see the wisdom in the lesson (I wouldn't beat the hell out of my kids, but I see many mistakes I made in trying harder to maintain a friendship than parenting as I should have. The respect that children have for their parents should be on a different level than that of a friend). My home should be peaceful. Thanks to Madea I'm taking back control. I'm not gonna say "yes" when I mean "no". I learned that I'm not thin anymore and it's okay!! There's so much more, but I think you should buy the book. Hey, you may even laugh although I cannot make any promises about that. But I do promise you will learn or relearn some valuable life lessons.

I can't believe I overlooked this book- or maybe I saw it and blew it off (just being honest). I'm SO happy I read it! It's the perfect blend of humor, wisdom and deviousness. The best thing about this book is, I can relate to so many of the stories. It took me back to my childhood. I grew up with Madeas. My great-great grandmother was my Madea (we actually called her "Madea"). She was just as hilarious as Mabel Simmons. She would have liked her. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh or words of encouragement. This book provides both. Great read! Still can't believe it took eleven years to discover this gem.

I'm an ardent fan of Madea, and bought and read this book when it first came out. I'm still laughing from hearing this book read in the voice of Madea. It is by far, the funniest CD you will ever hear. It really is not like she's reading the book, it's more like she is sitting at your kitchen table, or in the living room, just having a discussion with you on life. This will not disappoint, it is too funny. I bought some additional copies for Christmas gifts, but have already mailed them out. It's the kind of funny you have to share. I have DVDs of all the Tyler Perry plays and movies, but this CD tops the list. It is easily my most prized entertainment possession.

I enjoyed every second of my reading this book. I took it to numerous appointments I had and every where I went people ask how I like the book. I told them I love it. They ask me where I got it and I Amazon. They took down the name of the book and said they are going to get the book cause they love all the movies and plays that Tyler Perry has put out so far. I am so glad I ordered this amazing book. It really made me laugh a lot and laughter is good. I will be looking forward to watching out for his next novel.

Best book ever

I love Madea. Yet, the book is a little boring at some parts. I still gave it to my fellow Americans who are familiar with Madea and Tyler Perry Movies, too.

I would recommend this book to all Tyler Perry fans and to everyone who has never heard of him. This book is very funny and at the same time, it deals with real life situations you hear or heard about growing up. Some of her commentaries are a bit far fetched but the book is entertaining. I have ordered more copies of this book to give to friends as gifts. I am a huge Tyler Perry/Madea fan. This book is written for all nationalities to understand as Madea states in this book in the various chapters so that she can be understood . I found myself reading and constantly laughing to myself or out loud at home or in public. I cannot stress enough how entertaining this book is. This book is worth the 5 stars and more!!!!
