SABRENT USB 2.0 to DB25 IEEE-1284 Parallel Printer Cable Adapter [THUMBSCREWS Connectors] (CB-DB25)

Perfect item working well with my old HP LaserJet 2100 printer!

The cable arrived within days of placing the order. However, I had not yet bought the computer yet, so this review got delayed. This cable allowed me to connect a 25+ year old HP 5L personal laser printer to a fairly recent Windows 11 Dell AIO with no parallel port, nor any slot with which to install one. The HP 5L is fussy about having all of the lines enabled for enhanced bidirectional parallel communications and not all USB-to-parallel cables support this. Sabrent apparently does and my ancient printer is back in action on a computer that normally couldn’t work with such an old device. Two things: First, I reused a fully enabled normal parallel cable to connect to the Sabrent USB-to-parallel port cable’s parallel port. Second, Windows 11 provided all of the required drivers for the cable and the printer. I only needed to make sure that the HP 5L was seen as a USB device during the automatic discovery and setup. I did not need a driver disc.

Keep in mind that this is explicitly a PRINTER cable. The USB controller presents itself to the operating system as a print device, not a generic serial device. Therefore, this cable will not work for random devices that you want to connect to with DB25 cables. Instead, you'd need to get something like this, Sabrent USB 2.0 to Serial (9-Pin) DB-9 RS-232 Converter Cable (CB-DB9P) , and then finally a DB9/DB25 adapter like this one: StarTech.com DB9 to DB25 Serial Cable Adapter - F/M (AT925FM) . For printers, this cable works a treat. But it won't work for anything else. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine.

Tried to use this to connect a laser engraver to a PC, and it wouldn't work at all. I verified I had the right drivers and everything. The engraver shows up, but something with the way the USB is involved made the engraver unhappy. I used a PCIe to parallel card and that worked perfectly.

We have an old HP LaserJet printer from 1998 we keep around because, well, it still works. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the Windows XP desktop it was plugged into, which was purchased in 2002 and desperately needed retirement. This was the exact cable we needed to use this printer with a Windows 10 laptop. We plugged it in, turned on the printer, and within one minute Windows had automatically registered it as a working printer and it was ready to use. I'm astounded it was that simple, as I was expecting to need to scrounge around the Internet for drivers at the very least. Very impressed. The cable has a female DB-25 connector on one end and male USB on the other end which is exactly what we needed. Before buying it, I looked around at my local Fry's Electronics store, and they carried almost every single other possible combination of cables and adapters and gender-benders, but not this one.

I bought this for an old zip drive. It powers up and works. I even tried on an old OS (Windows 7) no dice.

Un câble indispensable pour réutiliser une imprimante toujours opérationnelle mais équipée d'un port parallèle. Un peu de recherche pour identifier le nouveau port USB créé mais passé cette étape l'imprimante a fonctionné instantanément !
