I'm looking for something to use as a coating on diy coasters....to protect from water damage. would this be a good product for that?

I have used this and another brand of water based sealers on ceramic and stone tiles that are decorated with thin metal embellishments & imprints of photos with acrylic paint. My coasters are still very well protected 3-4 years later. Have fun making your coasters!

Anybody using this for polymer clay?

Yes! It was recommended on several "how to" Youtube sites. It works great to seal my bakes polymer clay pieces after I apply mica powder. It seals well, and keeps the powder from rubbing off. It also works well to seal pieces that I've painted with acrylic paint.

I would think not, as it will come off with enough liquid.

Does this have UV protection?

Didn't read anything on the can I have re UV protection. The statements and directions on the can are all in very fine print. Suggest you go to varathane.com & email your question directly to them. Sorry, wish I could tell you more.
