Very nice kit bought to pieces to mount microphones sadly I could not buy a 3/8 ball for it? There is also issue with it 🧩 Root Cause: ❌ The mushroom is physically too big → Even before tightening, the clamp shells are already spread open just to fit over it → So when you turn the knob, it can't apply proper pressure to the 20mm ball → Instead, it’s binding early on the mushroom neck, which completely defeats the design 💡 The Clamp’s Actual Design Intention: the clamping pressure should come from: The 20mm ball pushing back into the cup on one side, The clamp shells closing around the ball, And the mushroom providing resistance — not being the main contact point. If the mushroom is oversized, it lifts the shells apart = zero effective grip on the ball.

It does as you'd expect, holding things at various heights and angles... and it's actually strong. Currently it holds my Sony A5100 and Sigma f1.4 lens. Both combined are fairly heavy, but it does the job with no problems. Ensuring the ball-heads are tightened properly is important, but once they are, it stays in place.

Perfect for additional flexibility when using an Elgato multi-mount system. I use this with a high-end webcam that needed to come up and over a large monitor. Not cheap, for sure, but quality costs that little bit extra and you save the hassle/stress that cheaper options often introduce into your life.

With 5 ball and socket type joints there isn’t a positive you can’t twist it into making it highly versatile. It’s a bit faint but I’ve used a green circle to highlight the first ball joint. I struggled to get this tight enough so as not to sag under load. That was after a bit of a struggle getting it assembled in the 1st place. I practically had to fully dismantle each joint in order to get the ball into the socket.

As with all products from Elgato this is very high quality and well made. Elgato products no matter how simple, never fail to impress. Some really good ball joints on this that are rock solid when tightened.

The product is good and I don't mind paying the Apple Tax like Elgato premium as it does exactly what I want. However, as other's have pointed out, the Flex Arm does not come with the ball mount for my camera. Not only that, but Elgato don't seem to even sell one so how are people supposed to mount their camera on the end of it? I thought at first it would come with one as there is one pictured at the end of the Flex Arm on the Elgato web site. But when I went back to confirm after receiving the order and seeing there was no ball mount, I see that part of the image is there but ghosted out. I suppose Elgato expect most people to by the Flex Arm together with the mono clamp stand which does seem to have a ball mount. But I bought only the Flex Arm. I wouldn't mind if Elgato gave some option when purchasing the Flex Arm as would have agreed to pay a few more pounds for the extra attachment but they don't and they don't even sell it alone. That's quite shoddy customer consideration in my view and I would expect more from a company that charges so much for products. Fortunately for me, I have a Keylight Air that I don't use the stand for as I attached the Keylight Air to a higher generic light stand that I have. So I was able to take the ball joint from the Keylight Air and use as, luckily, it uses the same screw thread size as my camera. Edit: Update: After a few years of using these I don't really like them. As well as the fact they have no ball socket camera mount, the grip when tightened up at the joins isn't that strong and they slip. The bars are heavy and I only haver a Sony Zv1 which is a light camera but it would still slip. The only way I could tighten it up tight enough was to use a wrench to get extra torque as the fingers on the little plastic keys can't provide enough to get it tight enough. They grip fine and they stay in place if you use a wrench. But the plastic keys are prone to cracking under the wrench grip and high torque needed to secure the joint so it won't slip. I'd recommend a different solution if you can find one.

Absulte perfect for a mirrorless camera like the sony a5100 i use . Cant fault it in any way
