I have read that this process conditions the water and that it only looses its scaling properties for some time (72hrs?.  Is this true of your device?

Yes. Water sitting in a container after it has been treated by our product will revert back to the original state in 2-7 days depending on the temperature, the warmer the better.

Why is your product more expensive than the rest? How is this different?

That is a very good question, not all descalers are created alike, or function the same way. So let’s go through some aspects:
 
-       Basic operating principle: the Yarna uses a capacitive effect. Most other products have electro-magnetic or simply magnetic effects. The capacitive technology is far more effective and here is why. The two wires together with the water form a capacitor. The role of a capacitor is to store and release energy. The capacitive technology always uses water to its own advantage. Compared to capacitive, the EM effect always struggles to penetrate the pipes and water. So you need a much higher energy to generate a strong enough EM field. Small devices with 12V power supplies just can’t deliver that.  Having the water inside the pipes as our ally and courier, we are able to deliver all the energy right where it is needed (at the Calcium and Magnesium) 
-       Frequency of the impulses: depending on the water speed you need a different frequency of the impulses that are discharged. Some other devices take this into account also, however only somewhat. We have the largest range, from 3 to 33kHz, more than enough for all scenarios. Our device will be effective from the slightest drip to 20 gallons per minute.
-       Works with any grain per gallon: to our knowledge this is the only device that can do that. Because we can deliver plenty of energy and we have the variable frequency we can successfully treat any hardness. The only condition is imposed by the max 2” pipe diameter.
-       Emphasis on quality: every component, from the aluminum enclosure to the active impulse bands to even the zip ties are high quality and built to last. 
 
Also regarding the price, our device is actually very affordable compared to other devices with similar technologies. Similar products range from $500 to $1500, with comparable specifications. We tried to implement the same technology in a much more affordable package so that anyone could install one in their home.

Question 3

Any benefit to installing a second unit before our water softener that is in need of descaling?

If you are referring to installing 2 water descalers, then the answer would be, you will need one per household.

It will also depend on your water softener because If you have a salt-based water softener, our product is redundant. And the same is true if you have a Yarna installed, and here is why. Consider the following scenarios:

1. The Salt Water Softener is installed first. When the water hits the softener it will retain calcium (the main component of limescale) and release salt instead. This system will pull out most if not all the calcium and replace it with salt. The Yarn Descaler installed after the saltwater system won’t have anything to act upon. In our opinion salt in the water means trading one nasty side effect for another. Excess salt is highly corrosive and not so good for the body.
2. The YARNA Descaler is installed first. The water reaches the installation point and the electric field converts the calcium into a different form of calcium that will not adhere to anything (the pipes, appliances, etc). You still have calcium and magnesium in the water. Generally, calcium in the water is considered healthy. However, you eliminate all the negative side effects that the untreated minerals have on the pipes. Also, in this case, the now treated calcium (although harmless) will enter the saltwater softener and the same replacement process takes place. You’ll end up with salt in the water.

This is why our recommendation is to chose one of them and NOT have both working. Depending on what you want/need I strongly suggest installing only one of the two. If you want no minerals in the water then salt systems are the way to go. If you want to eliminate the nasty side-effects of calcium, Yarna will do that.

But if you are using a non-salt water softener then you can install our Water Descaler before it.

Does it help get rid of ferrous iron ?

No, just calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. And just to be clear, it doesn't get rid of them, they are still in the water but they don't 'stick' to glass doors, dishes, or the insides of pipes.
