Should have been standard.
This thing should have been standard, or at least an options in Honda Fit. You can not fit much inside the storage, It's not deep. Don't buy it for extra storage, which you are not going to get. It's design to make ride a little more comfortable, especially on long rides. Installation was easy, you can find how to do it on YouTube. Only issue I had was, before you lift a hand brake to remove the plastic cover, remove small plastic clip by the root of hand brake. You need to squeeze two clips from inside to take it out. If you are not going to do it, you are risking of cracking that plastic cover during removal.

Top Quality, worth the extra price
While I am somewhat disappointed that Honda does not include arm rests in the Fit (something I had assumed was standard in all cars), this product is the absolute best option out there. Sure you can save a few bucks and get the drop-in type, but those things are definitely going to turn into a projectile in an accident. This genuine Honda part bolts in to the existing holes under the center console, and once it is in, you really can't tell that it was an add-on, fits perfect (makes sense, made by the people who made the car). Super-sturdy and a nice solid feel to it. It also has a pocket built in that is perfect for sunglasses or a cell phone that you want to keep out of sight. Flips up if you want it out of your way. Installation wasn't a breeze, but if you can change your oil, you can do this in a half hour to an hour, depending how meticulous you are. Installation Tips: -Be careful not to let the parking brake cable stay bolts slide down under the carpet once you loosen them. I did that and needed to recruit my fiancee's tiny hands to retrieve the one I lost. Got it back, but it took 10 minutes of feeling around under the carpet. -The instructions (available online in paper and youtube format) call for metric drill bits, which I couldn't find at Sears Hardware, Home Depot, or Lowe's. Turns out that its not really important that the holes are exact, you can use US bits that are close to their metric equivalents. The only holes that you might end up seeing are the larger 20mm holes in the outside of the console that get the rubber plugs. I think I used a 3/4 hole saw for those, and the plug fits like a glove.

Very worthwhile if you want a center armrest in your Honda Fit
This comes standard on some Honda Fit trim lines but not with others. This is very worthwhile if you want a center armrest in your Honda Fit. However, for some people like myself the armrest is still too low. (I have a tall torso and shortish arms so I need to use a pillow on top of it, but I am still glad I got it.) Installation was fairly easy if you are a reasonable handyman (capable of, say, fixing a leaking faucet), but I would not recommend installing it yourself if you are afraid to touch a wrench.

Works great!
This was exactly what I was looking for! I bought a 2009 Honda Fit Sport about 2 months ago and wanted more then just the stock arm rest to share with my wife on our trip from Mississippi to California this Christmas. INSTALL: I found a great post on a fitfreak dot net that had excellent instructions (including pictures). Using these instructions it took me no time at all to install. I do want to give fair warning that this may seem like a fairly intensive installation but for anyone that has done any basic work on cars it will be fairly easy (just go to the site and look for yourself). QUALITY: It seems to be really sturdy and quality built. I like that it folds up and the built in compartment is small but could hold a cell phone or other small, skinny objects. Over all I think that it is worth then difference in price from the $75 drop in model and would recommend it to anyone that is tired of not having a center console.

Why this isn't standard, I'll never know...
I just bought a 2013 Honda Fit after my 2006 Civic got totaled. I love everything about the Fit, with the sole exception of the stock armrest. It was too skinny for even one arm, let alone sharing it with my partner. First order of business was investigating alternatives, which was how I found this. I checked out YouTube videos to see how hard it was to install this armrest - looked easy enough, so I figured I'd save some money on labor by doing it myself. I only needed a hole cutter drill bit, which I also got on Amazon; everything else I had. Overall, it took me about two hours to get the console installed correctly, and it works great! The one problem I had was bolting the new bracket into place with the emergency brake bracket. I couldn't get the bolt holes to all line up; I eventually had to use a screwdriver for leverage to hold the brackets in place while I put a bolt in to hold it all down. The YouTube video was far more helpful than the instructions. I'm quite happy with the console - it's sturdy and of great quality. I do wish that it was a little bit longer in lieu of the extending top piece. It's too short in its retracted position for two elbows, yet the extended position makes it look less sharp (in my opinion). And the storage space is really small - barely big enough for a checkbook and some gum. But complaints aside, it's far better than the stock armrest, and I got a great feeling of accomplishment from installing it myself!
