Heavy Duty Brass Plated Lid Stay - One Pair - Lid Support Hinges for Drop Front Desk, Trunk, Chest - SH2-SB

We picked up these hinges to replace the 60+ year old original hinges on my wife’s childhood toy box. We were happy to find an exact replacement that looks good and works well. After multiple generations, the box, that was made by my wife’s grandfather, had begun to succumb to the ravages of kids and time. While the hinges did not come with screws—a bit of a sticking point for me when the item costs around twenty bucks, we simply reused the screws from the original hinges. Once you make it past the price, these are great pieces of hardware and have restored a cherished item from my wife’s childhood. We highly recommend these hinges— just don’t forget to order screws, too!

The hinges are very nice and exactly what I needed for an antique hope chest restoration project. However, I was really ticked off to find that there were no screws or any sort of instructions included in the package. I was able to use the screws from the old lid support and went to youtube to find instructions before I drilled new holes. But that wasted a lot of my time and was really not appreciated. If you're not going to include screws, SAY SO and offer a link for instructions. It's really not that hard to include that info in a listing. I hate bad customer service.

I recently refinished an old Cedar Chest. It only had one brass lid stay that was old and thin. So I looked on Amazon for replacements. I found these and decided to buy them. They fit very well in the Cedar Chest, easy to install (came with screws). Could open and close the lid very easy. They are much stronger than the old one. Worked well and I am happy with them.

The brackets looks nice and seem very sturdy. One of the brackets is stuck in the closed position and no amount of force will open it so it's not usable. There are no instructions for how to install this and there are no screws. I ordered screws when I realized that this didn't come with them, but that was before I realized that one of the brackets is unusable. I called the company and left a message. Time will tell if they contact me back. I waited to hear back and when I didn't, I called Amazon. I was told that I had to return them and they'd send me a replacement but that I'd have to pay $7.99 for shipping. I told the man that was unacceptable and he put me on hold and came back and told me that he'd charge my credit card for the shipping charge and also issue me a $7.99 Amazon credit (with some limitations). He told me the credit was already issued, but as of two days later, it has still not showed up, so apparently I'm out the $7.99 shipping charge. The next day, the seller contacted me but the woman had such a heavy accent and poor grasp of English that I could only understand about 25% of what she said so I still have no idea what is going on there.

The stays appear to be well made and would lock open if desired. I had no problem with the item, but returned it as it was not compatible with my project.

Heavy duty-not for light weight lids. Solid locking-great for cedar chest or other heavy lids.

Lid stays seem very good quality for the price. Genuinely might just put them a step down from Horton brass lid stays. I just attached them to my project for my client. The chest doesn’t have the final wax on it only tung oil so please don’t judge. The lid stays are very simple. There’s no instructions, but don’t overthink these. Just put it to where you want the lid to stay and make sure you have depth clearance for the inside of your compartment. I’ll be buying these in the future for the clients who don’t wish to pay for the premium hardware

Very sturdy!

Looks good, functions well. Needs a little help to lock out and unlock. We added chains for extra support because it just wasn’t big enough for the size of the door we were using. Good strength so far. We’ve had this installed for about a month so far and it’s still solid.
