Scandinavia 12 (Lonely Planet) Review: Great Advice for the Budget Traveler - Great advice for the budget traveler. I have been relying on the Lonely Planet travel books since the early 1980's and they always have good advice. The guide for Scandinavia has really helped me in planning our family journey to Sweden, Norway, and Finland and I love that include ideas for kids and families. Although it is geared primarily toward the budget youth hostel crowd, I still find Lonely Planet to be reliable and sensible now that I am traveling with my children and staying in actual hotels. Review: Solid LP - Pretty good, nice volume though obviously is more info in individual books on each country seperatly. Would still recommend this though. If your just going to one country, the Rough Guides might be a nice option too.

LP and travel- don't leave home without it.
Got it earlier than projected. Great resource, not much more to say. Buy the newest edition since it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most folks so price in the big picture of overall trip costs is nominal. I write hotel reviews and note things on margins so at the end it is a useful souvenir and good way to organize photos too.

Very helpful, just enough information.
This guide is very helpful. If you're spending more time in Iceland, I recommend also buying the Lonely Planet guide to Iceland by itself. Still, the Scandinavia guide will give you everything you need to play a multi-week trip to this area of the world.

Second rate.
I was kicking myself once I got this. It is presented in a dull, dry format with a lot of things that you don't want and missing a lot you do. For instance, I went on a popular tour of the area and we stayed at many well-known hotels. You would have thought at least one of the many would have been listed and reviewed, nope. I cannibalized my book to take only the parts relevant but never used it as another couple had the Rick Steves guide and we were all huddled around it. Next time Rick will get my business.

We used this guide for background reading on history and sights as well as restaurant suggestions. It tends to offer more upscale restaurants than the Rick Steves guide.

I bought this as a gift and the receiver loved it (as did I when I had a look through it myself before wrapping it) - plenty of information, clear maps and pictures, great ideas for things to do, and a down-to-earth narrative throughout. Very good buy!
