Found Photo of My Dad as a Medic!
Bought it because my brother found out it had a photo with my Dad in it on page 116. He was a Medic in the Army. We have had the photo in our house for 70 years. Just something nice to keep for the generations to come. My brother has the softcover copy. I like the hardcover copy. :)

This book was a wonderful revelation to me about the significance of D-Day in our nation's history.Though my dad served in World War 2, he never spoke about the horrors of it.Douglas Brinkley makes it very clear that if this plan of action had not been successful, things would be very different today for our country. It is an excellent book that I would highly recommend.

5 star pictures,3 star writing
Good book as one could expect from Life, filled with fine pictures, many of which rarely seen before. On the other side, the tone used in the written sections is a bit arrogant and translates mostly the american view about D-Day and its context. Many other books from american authors (Stephen Ambrose comes to mind, same as the fantastic WWII 30+ book collection from Time-Life Books I bought in the 80's) are much more balanced and fair in their analysis and description of the facts..Anyway, as a 70th aniversary edition it is worthwhile to join your WWII book collection if you can find it at a bargain price as I did.
