Review: For Now Not Bad - I was running the Fluval 306 canister and the Aqueon Quiet Flow 20 together on my 27gal cube tank. My tank is over stocked, but with small fish. It's my daughters tank in her room. I could never keep the water clear without add some chemical to the water every few days. I was using Acurel-F to clear up the water and it did work, but like I said I would have to use it every few days. I got the SunSun JUP-01 and installed it in the tank right away. I really didn't pay any attention to the tank for the rest of the day. Installed it around 2pm and got my daughter ready for bed at 8pm the water was a lot clear. The water always has a little cloudiness in it. Not a green tint. With the LED lights you can see if the water has any milky cloud in it easily. This morning I got my daughter ready for school and fed the fish and wow the water was clear. The only thing is I wish this had a water flow control to slow it down a little. 27gal cube the water flow of this thing is close to the output of my Fluval 306 canister. 18 fish in a fresh water 27gal tank and they don't look like they are being blown around. The air valve is kind of useless to have. It will blow air into the tank, but it makes a lot of small bubbles that float around all over the tank. In mot sure why that is an added feature. Another thing is the suction cups. They should have made tabs to easily remove the JUP-01 suction cups from the glass. When it's stuck to the glass, it's stuck to the glass. Not easy to remove. But all in all I have to say, it works.. For how long, who knows. UPDATE... Its been about a week now or better. I use to have to do a 25% or 50% water change a week when cleaning the tank. Looks like I don't have to do a thing to it now. Water is very clear. I don't see any reason to vacuum the rocks. My tank is over stocked and between the Fluval 306 and the SunSun looks like my tank is now stable. The SunSun is still working, I see the little window to check the light and its still on. Another UPDATE... Well the SUNSUN still works, but my daughter wanted a few more fish. I started watching the tank a little more and seen the fish were being blown around a little. I unplugged the SUNSUN and seen yeah it is the output is a little too much. Maybe my tank is too small for the water flow that is coming out of the SUNSUN. My tank is 20x20x20x20 in size, 27 gallon cube. On a 20gallon long or tall might be better for the SUNSUN. Like I said I wish it had a water output adjustment on it. Nothing wrong with the SUNSUN JUP-01. I bought the Aquatop UVE-9 because it has a water flow adjustment. I might get another tank and still use the SUNSUN on that.
Review: This thing is Amazing! - I ordered this out of desperation. I have a 65 gallon tank that has never been clear in the two years we have had it. A few times it has been close to clear but not like my 36 gallon or 20 gallon tanks (which are always clear). I have blamed the substrate, the fresh veggies (for the Pleco), plants, lack of plants, filters, etc, etc... I was up to 2x 25% water changes each week and had added two Purgen filters (at $12 each) behind each carbon filter. But the before pictures below was the best I was getting. I ordered the UV filter on a whim but shortly after ordering it; I saw a couple of scary YouTube posts about it. Thankfully I also took a good deal of time reading all the long reviews here and ended up doing the following things that I would suggest for anyone else buying this for the first time: 1. The device arrives with a blue L shaped piece, a semi transparent hose and a black coupling. But not a word about what to do with them. I figured out from the pictures that the blue L goes into the blue input valve on top of the device (this it shows on the picture outside of the box, must remain above the water line). I surmised from online videos that the hose attaches to the blue L and the black coupling on the other end. I clipped these with the little S clip on the hose to my existing air hose at the point where it exits the tank. I believe air comes into the pump via this hose, if so, you don't want water to get in it. (I included pictures of how I have this set up.) 2. This was likely the most important tip from these reviews. The scary YouTube warnings about this product show after it running for a while in the tank the owners took the device out to discover a black goo substance on the inside of the black plastic housing (it goes over the glass lamp cover). One video said he believed this killed his fish. Well in my opinion that is because that plastic part and the glass over the bulb, both arrive with some lubricant goo on them, it's clear on arrival but I can imagine after a while in the tank it wouldn't be clear anymore. So I followed the several other review recommendations and did the following: * removed the plastic and glass housings * removed the plastic at the end of the bulb and threw it away * washed the black plastic parts and the glass tube that goes over the bulb with warm soapy water and dried them * verified the glass bulb cover had the plastic ring first on followed by the black ring last on for a water tight seal (mine were not removable like some of the online pictures show) * lastly after I assembled it all I ran the UV filter overnight in a 5gallon home depo bucket. * in the morning I took it out and took it apart to verify no water got inside of the glass bulb cover. I put the UV filter in my tank at 6:00am on Monday (that is when the before pictures were taken). I took the after pictures at 6:00am on Thursday (72 hours later). I could not be more pleased!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: It doesn't come with any instructions and my fish are dying! I need to know if I even hooked it up right or if I didn't do something I should have.**
A: If your tank is less than 55 gallons, you should also watch your water temperature. UV sterilizer bulbs give off heat, so that plus your heater might be raising the water temperature to dangerous levels. I have mine in a 42 gallon and I unplugged my heater. Make sure your water is around 76° unless you have fish like Discus which like water in the 80's.

**Q: I have a black gear looking thing that was left over after assembly do I need it?**
A: I believe it’s to attach to the blue L shape knob

**Q: Anybody have any luck with this unit in an outdoor pond? I have a small turtle pond (50 gal or so) and the algae is out of control. I have a large UV sterilizer (non-submersible) for my larger pond (400 gal) that works great. Thanks.**
A: Used it for my 75 gal outdoor pond, cleared pea soup green water to crystal clear in less then 1 week, the water current is strong but my fish seem to love it. I use it along with another pond filter/fountain. You will need to clean the filter pads daily or everyother day until water is clear. Will use it all summer long to keep free floating algae from growing

**Q: Can I replace the 9w UV to 13w?**
A: Don't know why not. I use mine in a 40 gallon tank and 9v is more than sufficient.

I have a well established 29 gallon fresh water tank with an AquaClear 30 and a standard undergravel filter. Everything had been going great for several years and then two month's ago I had a huge algae bloom and my water turned green. I have tried changing the water several times and turned off the light for over a week and the green water just keeps coming back. After reading about UV sterilizers I thought I would give it a try. When the package arrived on Monday (5 days ago) I opened the box, and took the filter apart to check the quartz tube and o-rings before putting in my tank. Like some of the other reviewers, I noticed some grease on the tube but this was easily wiped off. Having dealt with o-rings in plumbing and pools for awhile I know the grease is required for a good assembly. After the inspection I placed the filter (Sterilizer) in the tank and noticed I could not see it at the back of the tank because of the green water. By the next morning there was a noticeable clearing of the water and I could now make out the outline of the filter in the back of the tank. Over the next 3 days the tank cleared up more and more each day and this morning the tank is crystal clear :) There are a few issues with the filter... it is bigger than expected, and the force of the water coming out is way stronger than any powerhead I have, it blows the fish around. I am going to figure out a way to plug some of the output to reduce the flow and also put it on a timer to run several hours a day from now on. I will update this review after I have had it for several months.
