Fun for the whole family! Okay, maybe not...
Silent Hill: Homecoming is the epitome of how a game in the survival horror genre should be played. The finite resources your character comes across (gun ammunition and health items), diversity of enemies, somewhat infrequent save points, and eerie story were all conscious inclusions made by the developing team which makes the game so fun to play. What I especially liked about Homecoming is the melee combat system. As you progress through the game you come across different weapons such as a knife, steel pipe, and axe. My immediate thought was to ditch the "weaker" weapon such as the knife for the "stronger" weapon such as the axe. What a mistake. Enemies in Homecoming all have different speeds, attack patterns, damage output, hits they can take etc, and it's your job as the player to decide what "tool" for the job you wish to use. If you want to mindlessly blast the enemy away with the shotgun or rifle, be prepared to pay for it later. Ammunition in Homecoming is a precious and finite resource that should only be used to take out stronger enemies in most (but not all) situations. Besides, it's much more satisfying to decapitate an enemy after a well fought battle than shooting them from far away. Right? No? Okay go back to playing Call of Duty kid... Some people might want to complain that the save points are too few and far between. Well, no duh. It's a survival horror folks, you can't just save the game every five minutes. Instead you need to cautiously battle enemies, collect precious med kits, solve puzzles, and pray that the next save point is around the corner. Silent Hill is all about creating a thrilling scary atmosphere and the mere sight of the "save symbol" should act as a relief toward the player. The last topic I'll touch on is the story. I won't reveal spoilers, or any of the plot for that matter. Instead I just want to say that it's compelling, includes a lot of foreshadowing, and overall makes you want to complete the game. Basically, it's the opposite of other survival horror games such as Dead Space. In Dead Space all I want to do is shoot stuff, the story is completely inconsequential. Overall, the only thing I would change about the game would be to include a 180 degree turn feature.

Really fun and a good game.
Definitely was brand new and Personally I really enjoy this game so far I'm a huge Psychological ajd Survival horror game fan and have played multiple different Resident Evil and Silent Hill games all the way back to the Playstation one versions and this game is pretty nostalgic and has similar aspect to Silent Hill 1 , 2 ,3 and Silent Hill Origins as well and I highly recommend giving it a try if you like Silent Hill games

Silent Hill: Homecoming
It's an older Silent Hill game, the story for me is good and solid. The combat mechanics for the time was good, though going back and replaying it, they are a bit slow and rough. Though even to this day the environment still holds up as creepy as feels like Silent Hill. The Games functionality has no problems for me, the UI is easy to navigate and the storage system in the game is simple and not over complex. If you never played it before, id recommend it.

Good horror game
Let me just say first that I did not play any previous Silent Hill games, but would really like to. But, I am, however a big horror fan. Story: The story in this game does NOT follow the movie, only some monsters are borrowed from that. You play Alex Shepard on his quest to return hoome and find his missing brother Joshua. The story has great twists and is very interesting, especially to people who enjoy a good psycological thriller. You can choose different diologue options when speaking to characters, but only 3 parts in the game actually determine which ending you get. It's worth mentioning the the notes you pick up in the game are worth reading. Graphics: This is a 2008 game. It looks decent, now. The mood and atmosphere is still great though. Excellent monster designs!!! Sound: Nothing to complain about. Monsters and voice acting are good. Gameplay: This is different from other Silent Hill games. You have a light attack, heavy attack, and a block. The combat in the game is good, you will find very few guns and ammo and will need to mostly use melee weapons. The enimies are tough and you don't want to leave them behind for fear they will catch up to you. The low ammo and health is what makes this game slightly scary sometimes. The combat can get repetitive and it is possible to mess up your entire game by using alot of healing items and then not having enough for certian parts of the game. That adds to scry factor, but doesn't make you too happy when it happens. Tip: keep multiple save files!! Boss fights are awesome and super demented! There is also alot of basic problem solving in the game, which is very enjoyable and should be familiar to anyone who has play survival horror games. I did find the puzzles to be an issue, though. They range from super easy to the most impossible thing ever. You could sit for an extremely long time trying to figure out the end puzzle, it is mostly impossible without a guide. Value: If you like horror it's definatly worth it for $20. There are different endings to unlock and for getting the different endings you get different costumes and weapons to use during the game. You also collect clild's drawings, serums, and pictures as collectables. There are no trophies on PS3. The drawings and pictures are nice to look at though for slight backstory and dementedness. Overall: Horror fan? Get this game. A good horror game, not the best, not the scariest, but very good. 8/10

I love it because it plays alot like the first.
I suppose alot of people are picky with games in ways I do not understand. Of course, even if I did understand why, it would'nt change how I feel about this game. It's fun. It plays alot like Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3. 4, I don't know of. I never played it. I notice alot of people loved the games they played a few years to many years back and all the sudden they don't like them as much. Not me. I am one of those people who can still enjoy an old fasion 8-bit NES game to a newer game today for PS3 and XBOX 360. Once I like a game, It stays with me. I still have imagination and it is still as fun as it was when I was a kid. Thats what made alot of those older games fun. You equip the sword to your character and the game does not offer the visual, instead you create the visual of your characters sword with your imagination. Plus the reading factor of the games were good too. I became a good reader because of older games and libraries. Silent Hill Homecoming will give you pretty much the same game play as 1, 2 and 3 does. I have'nt noticed any thing different except for the story line of course. So if you want that same type of game play, I reccommend this game. The way I see this game like the other Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 is 1. You find the items and weapons you need. 2. There are puzzles with riddles you solve and 3. The combat and controls are pretty much the same. Of course you still have your disturbing monsters especially those nasty nurses. Could'nt be good ol' Silent Hill without the disturbing monsters. It's one of the many reasons I love the Silent Hill series.

SIlent Hill Homecoming
Great game and I love it so much. However, there are a few things players should be warned about. 1) There are no achievements for the PS3 version of this game unlike the Xbox version. If you don't care about them, then you don't need to worry about it. 2) The costumes suck. The best ones (in my opinion) are the default and young Alex. The 'Boogeyman Alex' was the default with one addition. In my opinion, better costumes would have made the game better. On the other hand, Laser Pistol was worth it. 3) Its short. I won't lie to you- this game takes maybe a couple hours max to run though after you beat it, especially if you don't have to worry about bullets or achievements. The main fun is getting the endings and trying the conversations. Otherwise the game was great. It came that week (way sooner than expected) and didn't skip. Game was perfectly new. I recommend.

Man! I like this game.
Even though I read some negative comments on this game, I decided to risk and buy it because I love this kind of thirilling and horror games. Also, I was amazed by the features I saw in the game. At the first time when my roomate saw the game being played, he amazed by the graphics of the game. In my opinion, this not the only thing. I was enjoying the clear and accurate facial expression of Alex according the game progress. To tell the truth, maybe the lack of the weapons is con that may poeple post about the game, but I see it from another prospective. It could the desginer made it in purpose to stimulate the reality. I think when I was having difficulty in dark places even with a falshlight supports my point here. I tried to write down any con I would had about the game, but I haven't had any at all. OVER ALL 5 STARS Maybe I can't say whether it is better then 1 or not, but I can assure that it is one of my best games ever.

Great creepy game
Have played most of the SH games and enjoyed this as much as the others. Very creepy, dark game! Some players complain of control issues but i found them easy to master and fun to use. Awesome storyline. Sound and graphics are amazing and this game is worth current price. Twisted, creepy imagery, challenging puzzles and rewarding gameplay. Hard enough to be fun without being overly difficult. I dont enjoy repeating things over and over in a game and that not the case here. Also like the choices the game presents to the player which can effect which ending you recieve. Awesome game for anyone who enjoys survival/action/horror
