Great value for the money, a very nice razor.
I bought my husband a Merkur for Valentine's day, 2011. He loved it so much that I bought myself one of that same model. The craftsmanship and beauty of the Merkur won me over not to mention the exceptional reviews given to the particular Merkur razors that I ended up going with. The only thing I didn't like about the Merkur was the price. The particular model Merkur I selected cost around $32 back in February. However when I purchased mine in July it had gone up to around $36 or so. Fast forward to making Christmas plans when I decided that we were enjoying the comfort of wet shaving so much that I would put together a wet shave kit for the sensitive-skinned guys on my shopping list. Feeling the pinch of the tight economy and hoping that the Merkur model I was so fond of had dropped back down in price I hopped online to Amazon only to discover that now the same model razor was going for around $42 each. No way, I thought so I went in search of a good quality, economical razor. I had completely overlooked and not even noticed the Lord before. For the price I assumed it must be a piece of junk and so I went on in search of a high quality razor even if a bit pricey. Even though the Lord was enjoying several good reviews here on Amazon I was still afraid of getting what I paid for if I went cheap. After reading everything on Amazon written about the L6 Lord though I thought it was at least worth researching a bit more. After browsing a few different wet shaving sites I decided to put my question to the wet shaving, double edge blade loving crowd at Badger & Blade. What I received back in answer to my question were many very honest opinions regarding the Lord. Firstly, the guys who responded insisted that I get the Merkur-type head of the L6 and not the tech head available on what I believe is the previous model (the L5 I think?). Overall, everything they said sounded like this was one really good performance razor that while lacking in the craftmanship and beauty as compared to a Merkur, was still nice looking. I'd like to think of it as comparing a Mercedes Benz to a Honda. I needed four shave kits and needed a good quality, nice looking razor that would look great in a shave kit, perform extremely well, and cost enough to allow room in my budget to add soaps, dishes, badger brushes, razors etc... So I took the plunge and bought four. After tucking them away in my "Christmas storage space" I pulled them out a week or so ago. My husband and I decided to pull them out of the packaging (which looked cheap anyway and had obviously bad grammar printed on the back - I'm no grammar snob but this was pretty obvious). We placed each razor in it's little decorative box to create the shave kit along with the other goodies. I have to say that I agree with the boys at Badger & Blade. The razor is heavy but not nearly as heavy as the Merkur (actually I think it's better and the Merkur is too heavy). It has a nice weighted balance and a nice overall feel to it - it doesn't feel cheap at all. It isn't tacky in the least. In fact it looks awfully good (just don't hold it next to the Merkur or it does look fairly plain). My husband and I even ran the head of the Lord against our palms to get a feel and both admitted that if it wasn't exactly the same as the Merkur it was close to it. No, the craftsmanship isn't there the way it is in the Merkur. In a few of the razors the head isn't perfectly aligned just right, the decorative pattern on the handle feels like it's going to give you a "paper cut" if you slide it through your hand too fast, and it may have a few nicks here and there. But, despite all of that it's truly a great razor. It has character, it feels balanced and friendly in your hand, and it promises to deliver a great shave which I have no doubt it will. For me it was very simple - either find an affordable razor or find some other gift to give. I've bought four and well, although I don't regret buying the two Merkur razors, they are great but for the money I do honestly believe the Lord L6s will turn out just as well (although not as pretty). P.S. I'm going to try my best to remember to come back and update after the gift giving to see how the guys like their razors and how well they shave.

This is an excellent razor for a beginner to the wet shaving experience.
I remember my dad using double edged razors when I was a kid. I, personally, began shaving when the cartridge razor era began, so I had never really shaved with a double-edged razor. My son introduced me to the concept a little over 2 years ago. I began looking around for a cheap way to get into the field, I bought a cheap butterfly style from a big box store (don't do it) and almost gave up on the experience. I looked at the LORD razors and, on a whim, bought the Lord L5. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the shaving experience. I then I purchased the LORD L6 (this razor), two years ago, on the recommendations of several reviews on wet shaving sites. I was shocked by the difference in the quality of the shave between the 2 razors. By far LORD's L6 is the better of the 2 razors. It's replication of the Merkur head is the reason. The L5 is a copy of the Gilette TRAC razor head. I now own several of the original Gillette TRAC razors, which I like very well, I don't think LORD got it right. I suspect the zinc alloy casting technique does not work well for the TECH style razor head. I also now own a Merkur razor as well as the LORD L6. While the L6 is not as well made, in my opinion it provides an equal shave. I like the Merkur style head for its comfort while shaving. It is more forgiving than the TECH style head. The major problem with both LORD razors is that the aluminum handle and the zinc alloy razor head do not play well together over time. I noticed corrosion on the threads of the head fairly quickly after I began to use both. I discovered that this could be controlled by greasing the threads with petroleum jelly. I also take the head apart to rinse the blade after each use and do not tighten it back down on the blade until I am ready to shave again. These 2 steps have almost completely eliminated the corrosion. A big thank you to my son for introducing me to wet shaving and vintage double edge razors. Sometimes an old dog can learn "new", well "vintage" tricks. In conclusion, if you take care of this razor, it will likely be the only one you will ever need again, but you, like me, will fall in love the technology and buy vintage and upscale razors just for the fun of it. Even if you are not careful with this razor, it is cheap enough to replace often, and still have a wonderful shaving experience.

Great value!
This razor gets four stars because of its shaving performance and its value. (If you want to read a different review with helpful photos, see the following blog (substitute a period for the [dot]s: http://shavelikegrandad[dot]blogspot[dot]com/2014/08/lord-lp1822l-redux[dot]html.) As has been noted, the head on this razor is very similar to that on a German-made Merkur. I own a Merkur Classic (model 33C), and can attest that the Lord LP1822L (aka L6) shaves like my Merkur, but slightly more aggressively. Still, the L6 provides a mild shave that is not overly aggressive but is also not difficult to find the proper angle to cut whiskers well. Since my Merkur 33C cost more than twice this L6, the L6 is obviously a good value. There are important differences, however, that might explain the cost differential. The Merkur can clearly be an heirloom razor that might provide more than a lifetime of service, while the L6, properly treated (more on that below) may well last years and be passed along, but, again, special treatment may be necessary. Razor-blade fit: The L6 holds the blade firmly and edge exposure is uniform. This is a good thing. Handle length and grip: The L6 handle is generously long -- a full one inch longer than the Merkur 33c. Since some complain about the short handle on classic razors, this should make many double-edge (DE) users happy. The cris-crossed diagonal cuts in the L6 handle make a diamond pattern that, though different than classic knurling, makes for a fine grip wet or dry. Finish: The L6 handle is clearly aluminum and appears unplated, uncoated, while the Merkur is chromed. The head of the L6 appears chromed, and in comparing it to the 33C, the only difference in finish quality that I can see is that on the ends (the narrower sides) of the base and top plates, they don't have a smooth, mirror finish. But if this bothers you a lot, you may have larger issues than getting a good shave at a value price. But some other, more important concerns have been raised by others that deserve attention: 1. Insufficient thread interlocking between head and handle: This appears to have been a manufacturing issue that may have been resolved or at least improved. Certainly there is adequate but not generous thread engagement in the razor that I received: about four turns of the handle snugs it to the razor head (not four full revolutions, but four twists of the hand). This is fewer turns to secure than is required on my Merkur 33C -- and the 33C has a steel handle, which will be more durable than the aluminum of the Lord L6. I would suggest buying the razor from a seller with good customer-satisfaction ratings, and if this short-thread issue arises at or near delivery to you, you can get a replacement as has been done in the past. 2. Aluminum handle instead of steel: Here is where user care may make the difference. Yep, aluminum doesn't have the strength or toughness of steel. If you cross thread or over tighten, the handle will be toast. Also, the threads may not feel as silky smooth as you turn handle on and off the razor head. To address these issues, I suggest the following: a) When you first get the razor and periodically thereafter, apply petroleum jelly with a toothpick to the threads of the handle. I do this when I change blades, which is about once per week of continuous use. (I also do this on more expensive razors that have all-steel components.) b) Tighten carefully. Compress the top and base plates together with your fingers as you tighten and loosen the handle. This takes any strain off the aluminum threads. Then stop tightening as soon as the handle engages the base plate; NO ADDITIONAL FORCE IS NECESSARY! If you do these things, you will likely get more extended use from this razor. 3. Weight and balance of the razor is respectively less and different than other similar designs because of the aluminum handle. Yes, it's true; my Merkur 33c weighs 57 grams, while the Lord L6 comes in at 44 grams -- roughly 20% lighter. It may be true that the mass of a heavier razor helps keep the blade from bumping over stubble when using extremely light pressure against the face, but I don't believe this comes into play for most shavers with most reasonable-quality razors including this one. However, preference vary. Find the right blade for you in this razor and you should be a happy shaver. This razor gets four out of five stars because of its shaving performance and its value. The aluminum handle, though generous in length and with adequate grip, may have its threads stripped over time from overtightening or simply contant use. This razor is an excellent purchase as a travel razor over the long haul, or as an every-day razor if you are willing to accept it as something less than a lifetime razor. I feel this purchase was money well spent, and heartily recommend this as a first DE or another option to add to your collection.

Works great and at a GREAT price
I bought this as a starter razor because I didn't know if I would like shaving with a double-edge safety razor. It was recommended to me by a friend with the advice "Try this one. If you don't like it you're not out much dough." I've been using it. I like it. I think I'll continue to use it for a while. At some point maybe I'll feel like I know what I'm doing enough I'll be better able to judge what I want in a more permanent solution. Who knows? It might just be this one.

Great razor for starting out!
I fit in the category wanting to try double edge razors so I'm not wanting to break the bank and then not like it. I used to shave with a double edge when I was about 14 or 15 but that was just when I had peach fuzz. There was really no need to shave then because when I dried off after a shower if I just rubbed my face hard enough it probably would have come off anyway. Now that my nickname is Chewy or Yeti its a different ballgame. So I read through all the reviews both good and bad and I became incredibly nervous of such wide difference of opinion. My rating should tell you I really like this razor, but if you need more details let me clear a few things up. 1. This is a 10 dollar razor! That's it. I'm one for deals as well but I am very well aware of cost of materials vs price margin. There ain't no body out there making 30 – 50 dollar razors and selling them for 10 bucks. The head has bad chrome and the handle is some sort of very poor aluminum. It holds your blade that's it! I too have notice the blade not being even and then I took it apart and turn the bar opposite and BAM! Blade was straight. Even the more expensive razors only line up one way. Its just there's an arrow on them to indicate how to line it up. You're saving 20-40 bucks not having that arrow. 2. I too scraped the crap out of my face...the first time. Guess what I realized I was flexing my wrist and pressing WAY too hard. All the mistakes I make with a disposable razor because disposable razors are designed for people that don't want to take the time and/or can't shave anyway. So guess what practice like I did. You may even need to practice form with your disposable razor. This morning people asked me if I gave up the DE razor fad. No I have skills now. I can now shave with now redness and minimal nicks. 3. I didn't just change technique I realized the soap I was using was total crap and the lather would go away mid way through my shave. Also, I bought shaving oil. Many experience shavers will scoff at shaving oil but I'm not experienced. I bet they would ask for shaving oil if they let me shave them. If we were pro's right out the gate when shaving with this kind of razor would we have 5 blade razors today or would we still be at 2 or 3? Just do what your face needs you to do. 4. Another problem people may have with this razor is it not cutting close and they are taking too many passes for their face to handle. I have been doing some research and not all DE razors are the same. And it has nothing to do with prices, although, price does bring more options. There are mild and more aggressive razors even with in the closed and open comb razors. This one is mild. This gets me pretty close with 2 passes but I think 2 passes is all I can handle. So guess what that means. IF IT HURTS STOP! I too will be up grading to a better quality razor and trying a more aggressive when I feel I have the technique down. But I will be able to make use of it when I get it. So take this review for what it is and others for what they are. I feel this is a great razor for the price and will get your foot in the door. Everyone's face is different and this razor might give you the best shave right when you open it. I hope I have helped you with the ability to spot some reviews with someone who can't shave, don't want to admit they have to start at the bottom like everyone else, or it must be they ripped their face off with a cheap razor instead of ripping it off with a 50 – 100 dollar razor. I guess if you have money you have skills too.

Poor Manufacturing Ruins Otherwise Good Razor
I purchased this razor to give using a safety razor a try instead of spending loads of money on razor cartridges. The price was low enough that if I decided safety razor shaving wasn't for me I wouldn't be out too much. I should have put more faith in the low reviews this razor received. The razor came with one blade (no biggie, as I was using this as a trial and would purchase more blades in the future), and it all worked fine at first. I used the razor for a week and a half with no issues and a very good shave. After the week and a half, I removed the head to flip the blade over and when I tried to screw the head back on the handle, it wouldn't connect. After close inspection, the male screw on the head is just a bit too short to fully engage the females threads in the handle. It worked the first time because the male/female threads were just long enough, but after the first connection/disconnection, the very topmost threads in the female end of the handle (aluminum) wore out and now wont' engage the male end. I contacted Lord describing the problem and asking if they would replace the defective razor. That was a month ago, and no response so far. Like I said in the title, other than this 'fatal flaw', the razor worked very well, centering the blade nicely and giving it just enough bend to provide a close shave without lots of nicks and cuts. Its too bad Lord hasn't made the very minor manufacturing change to make this a great razor for the price. I liked the shave, and am going to buy another safety razor, but nothing from Lord. I'll bite the bullet and spend some money to get something that will hopefully last longer than a week and a half.

Not bad
This is my first double edge razor. I purchased it because I am a cheap-skate. Being a cheap-skate, let me first say I am totally confused as to why, HOW, these type razors actually sell for more than a few dollars. I am even more perplexed at the cost of badger tail brushes, and fancy coffee mugs. That said, this razor does the job. I've yet to cut myself. Yeah! Is it worth 12 bones? I don't think so, but considering the others start in the thirties, eh, it is a good option. Build quality: Poor. The razor handle BARELY attaches with 3/4 of a turn, 3/4 of a thread on the screw. Has never come loose, but I treat it gingerly. The handle is unpolished aluminum, with a pattern engraved. The machining is decent, no sharp edges. I'm new to this "wet shaving" thing, but using shaving cream hardly fits my idea of a wet shave. I shave in the shower, using shampoo lather. No expensive badger tail brush, no expensive coffee mug, no fancy soap/cream. Works just fine for me. The included blade grabs a bit if you've gone more than a day between shaves, but has held up well for a dozen shaves or so. Final thought: Storage. I've yet to come up with a safe place to keep this out of the hands of the three year old. The fancy hangers are nice, but put it within easy reach. On top of the shower wall will surely cause micro-rust to the blade, dulling it prematurely. Oh well.

Bang for the buck razor for beginners.
I bought this razor back in Sept 2011. Now in 2017, it finally bit the dust. The threads from the top piece do not catch the threads in the handle. But 6 years for a $10 razor is amazing. First the positives- (1) Long handle, over 4 inches with good grip (2) Not too heavy (3) Cheap. Back in 2011 I had caught on to the DE blade shaving craze, mostly to save money. Since I was just getting started, I decided to start with something cheap. So, bought this razor along with Shark 100 pack blades. The combination of this razor with Shark blades worked great for me. I also tried Derby blades, but did not have as much success with them, could barely get 2 or 3 shaves out of those blades. I have a really tough beard and usually shave every 2 or 3 days. I also shave after taking a shower (but not in the shower) as it softens the beard. I always got a great shave, I could easily manage 5 to 7 shaves with a single Shark blade. I usually do 3 passes with the razor, first pass is along the direction of hair in the beard, second pass is against the direction of hair in the beard. The final finish pass is also against the direction of hair in the beard. I have also tried other razors like Merkur 23C long handle (to heavy) and Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl (Grip too smooth and slipper, also too mild for my beard) but this razor worked best for me. On the negative side, this razor is made of aluminium or some kind of alloy and cannot compete with other more expensive razors in the looks department. But then again, for the price, one would not expect it to. Overall, it is a great work horse and great value for money. Highly Recommended!

The best safety razor for me
Even if I own some other classic safety razors from Muehle, this one still feels better to me, easier to control, lighter in hand and precise. The angle of the blade is perfect for my tough beard and sensitive skin. Coupled with a Gillette Platinum blade, it is very effective and smooth. Well worth the otherwise very affordable price, I bough a couple just in case they will no longer be available in the future.

Rapport prix imbattable
Rien à dire, fonctionne parfaitement, facile à nettoyer et à dévisser (attention de bien prendre par les bords sur les côtés en vissant pour éviter de se couper). Coupures très minimes quand on sait comment s'en servir

Great Value for money.
I have very many safety razors in my collection, some costing upwards of 150$ and this one shaves very well considering the cost. This razor's head design is based on the venerable merkur "type" head. It is a no frills razor that does the job and performs well. It is quite light-weight and would serve well as a travel razor due to it being light-weight and inexpensive. If ever you loose it on a trip its not a huge big deal.
