Product Description From the swaggering, slide-drenched title track to the duet with reggae icon Toots Hibbert on "Sweetest Thing" to the hypnotic build of "King Hummingbird," this is the work for a world-class songwriter and artist at the top of his game. Guitarist Derek Trucks also guests. "Inspired, deliriously funky, deep-in-the-pocket front porch soul."-Chicago Sun-Times A1. Diyo Dayo A2. King Hummingbird A3. The Sweetest Thing A4. All A5. Lullaby Review "Grey's take on Southern boogie, swamp rock, soul and R'n'B is proudly old-fashioned with echoes of Tony-Joe White, Gregg Allman and ZZ Hill." - 4 stars out of 5 --Uncut Magazine Review: Yes, This IS the Real Thing! - I like my music with some serious soul in it. Not the artificial soul of what passes for modern R&B; I mean real stuff that comes from the gut. JJ Grey's new CD "Georgia Warhorse" is one of the most soulful albums I've heard in a long time. Let me start with my favorites. "Gotta Know" is a slow and sensitive ballad that crescendos into a powerful guspel-filled jam. "Hide and Seek" is some serious swamp rock with a killer guitar riff and hook. "Georgia Warhorse" provides some great swamp blues about - what else? - the indestructible insect that the song is named after. "Sweetest Thing" reminds me of the type of mid-tempo soul that Otis Redding might do (and Grey's voice is very comparable). Really, all the songs on this CD are quite different but there isn't one that is a "filler." They are all quite good and Gray's raspy vocals combined with the songs' semi-raw production make this a real treat to listen to. If you are a fan of old (new) soul a la Marc Broussard, JJ Grey and Mofro's "Georgia Warhorse" will be right up your alley. Review: Love it! and so does my Fiancé! - After my finance introduced me to JJ Grey & Mofro's music, I purchased this album for his birthday last year, and we both agree that this is by far, our favorite album they've put out. JJ Grey has such a unique sound that fit right into that blues and southern rock genre. "Georgia Warhorse" is one of my favorite albums, and has several catchy songs. "Diyo Dayo" and "Slow, Hot and Sweaty" are two songs that get stuck in my head quite often, and I love "The Sweatiest Thing". I definitely recommend this album, along with any of the other albums put out by JJ Grey & Mofro.

Thank you Amazon
A big thank you to Amazon because their "free song of the day" has allowed me to sample so much music and discover talent that I might otherwise never have experienced. JJ Grey & Mofro is a perfect example of one of my prized Amazon discoveries. I love their music and now own everything they have released. This collection is smooth and such a pleasure to listen to and has further solidified JJ Grey and Mofro as one of my favorite acts. This collection is definitely worth the purchase price.

Great Album!
They never cease to amaze me with the lyrical genius and musicianship. JJ wrote most of the music himself which places him in a most respectable position amongst todays song writers, and has some of the most soulful and heartfelt music this side of the blues. I want to go see them live someday.

I saw a write up of this album in a guitar magazine and gave it a test on Amzon, then bought it. Initial reaction was ok, interesting, I'll listen again. By the 3rd listen I was hooked. I have since bought the previous 4 albums :) This is laid back swamp, blues & funk (is that a new genre? SB&F?) with stunning lyrics. There is a YouTube video of JJ singing "The Sweetest Thing" with Toots Hibbert which is well worth watching. There isn't a bad track on this album and I really think it is worth every penny!

Back in 2010, this JJ Grey guy and his band Mofro made their way on stage in Kitchener, Ontario (Bluesfest), to open for Jonny Lang. Never in my life have I heard a band, whos music I had never heard, capture my spirit, and everyones in the crowd that night. This Album came out just after the show(but he did play alot of it).I now own all of his albums...this one being by far the best to date. JJ Grey & Mofro will be huge in a couple of years, so I encourage you to buy this album and go see them in your town. You will be so glad you did. My hats off to JJ Grey & the very talented members of Mofro!!!
