Works just fine as a switch, bit complicated & underpowered for anything else
Bought two of these, using one as a router and the other as a simple switch for in-home 10G runs over fibre. The switch was simple to setup, essentially upgrade to the latest firmware and take the defaults as a bridge. Configuring one as a router on the other hand was anything but simple. Finding answers without having to trawl through YouTube was driving me crazy. This little box is a powerhouse, but needs someone with more patience and time to learn than I do. To get my router setup, I followed the example found on GoWifi's website, which was a godsend (I obviously ignored the wifi parts as they were unnecessary here). If you're in the same boat, Google the following: gowifi beginners guide Mikrotik router I don't own a PC, only Mac's so had no choice but to install Wine, and run Winbox.exe to get this done (at one point, you'll have to connect to the device using the MAC address and not the IP address, which is why you need to use Winbox). Other than not understanding where my backups got saved, it now works. Performance wise, as a switch it works great. A router on the other hand isn't recommended for anything except light (real world 330Mbps max throughput) workloads or for temporary use. If it's a router you need, I'd suggest connecting this to the RB5009UG+S+IN instead.

Excellent, well built, switch.
Bought to extend my home 10G network from one bedroom Ethernet jack to the other end of house through fibre in the loft. Make sure you get the FibreMall 80m 10GBASE-T module if you need Ethernet as it is the only 80m module that reports temperature correctly on these units. Also runs cool and at only 3.255V, so within spec. Got 10Gtek SR fibre modules and they work great too. Switch runs cool, is incredibly well built and performs well with their SwOS. My only criticism is the lack of HTTPS for web management. This is not ok in 2024. Apart from that I love this thing.

Great 10Gbit value managed switch but not for beginners
Firstly, this is not an AI review - hopefully AZ does something about it one day. Even today, this is still the best value managed 10Gbit switch that is in active support. Sure you can get unmanaged, no-name, 10Gbit switches that are even cheaper but if you value your sanity I would not use them as core/main switches. This is not a beginner's switch though. Despite having modern graphical interface utilities (WinBox, etc.) it is a semi-pane-of-glass and pretty much CLI-like interface rather than a simple management GUI. If you have the money and want that - then get Ubiquiti or similar. Mikrotik products are the definition of "utilitarian" with quirky design and features that are not "uniform" and fit nicely with each other in a rack or next to each other. But they do work together even though you may think they belong to different companies. Size-wise it is smaller than you'd expect and has no fan (passive cooling) - if you use it with DAC or optical transceivers it does not get too hot in my view. I would not stuff it with SFP+ to RJ45 10Gbit though that would be too much. I had no trouble with 3-rd party DAC or optical transceivers connecting to Mellanox cards or other switches. Operating system wise, this (also) comes with a choice of RouterOS (for either L2 or L3 routing) or SwitchOs (L2 only). Both are actively supported and likely going for many years to come. IMHO you are better off sticking with RouterOS even for L2 switching only - for consistency with other Mikrotik like actual routers or Wifi APs. While it can do L3 routing due to weak CPU (Arm A7 2-core) this is best used as a switch only. RouterOS has pretty much all features you expect and more (take that Ubiquiti) - e.g. exoteric stuff like support for ROCE/iWARP PFC (e.g. for SMB-Direct RDMA), DANTE (digital audio through Ethernet) and some other features that would otherwise require costly Cisco, Meraki, etc equipment. In conclusion, if you want very cheap buy no-name unmanaged; if you want cool-looking and nice single pane-of-glass easy management buy Ubiquiti. Otherwise - consider Mikrotik ;)

Great value 10g L2 switch
It's a dirt cheap 10g switch that doesn't have fans, and you can even power it with PoE! What's more to say? OK the os is pretty nasty and using any sort of feature that requires software processing (i.e. anything L3) kills performance dead, but don't try to be silly and it's just incredible value. Just be aware it does run very hot, especially if you're planning on using 10gbase-t. Make sure it can breathe!

For the price, you cannot do better. 10Gb switch powered over PoE.
I have only dipped my toes into the features of this switch. To be fair I only wanted a 10Gb capable switch so a dumb on would have been fine, but this is incredibly capable. My situation:- I have a 1Gb PoE switch for cameras and access points. I wanted to upgrade to 10Gb to access video files I'm rendering more quickly. I wanted a mix of fiber, DAC and CAT6. This switch fits my needs perfectly. The flexibility is a huge selling point. The 1Gb Ethernet port connects to my PoE switch for both power and data transfer. Optical SFP+ for the longer cable runs and DAC from switch to my PC, and then 10Gb copper to another laptop. One thing you'll need to do to get 10Gb is go into each port and set the advertise to 10Gb. I'm guessing this is not enable out of the box for compatibility reasons but it is no great hardship to go in and set it. It runs hot. But I can see that the power draw is currently 7.9Watt. I need to shove some high speed transfers over it and then I'll report back. Seriously though.... The sheer amount of options in the GUI for this switch is unreal. Enterprise features, layer 1,2 and 3 features. In terms of compatibility this is again very versatile. I bought 10GTek optical transceivers, QSFPTEK RJ45 1Gb, and a passive DAC. All work immediately. I was really concerned about all the moving parts and compatibility but it all just works. FYI I use Solarflare 7120 cards for two client devices and the 10GTek optical trancievers and passive DAC and it all works together. I did a transfer between two NVME shared and got 580MB/s transfer speeds. I have yet to set any of the options above links advertising speed, so this is very promising. £120 for 10Gb switching? No brainer. So happy with this device, and it has some many more features I've barely even scratched the surface of.

Amazing for audio streaming
I may not be the typical customer for this product but nevertheless. I use it to source my audio streaming stereo setup. I power it through a Linear power apply and it sounds really good. And I love the router OS.

A great way to get started with 10GBe at home
It really is a tiny little box that makes it easy to get started with 10GBe at home. If you have a small network or Homelab and wish to get them all networked at speeds you will be grateful for if you do a lot of data transfers. NIC's and SFP+ copper is affordable on eBay or other online shopping places. Doing it for an entire home would be a lot more work but not impossible. Just depends on if you like exposed cabling or your place has false ceilings or places to route hidden away.

Compact, Powerful, and Versatile – Ideal for Advanced Network Setups
We’ve been using the MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+in in our office setup, and it’s been a fantastic addition to our network infrastructure. The four SFP+ ports are a standout feature, offering 10Gbps high-speed connectivity that’s perfect for linking routers, servers, or other backbone devices. One of the things we appreciate most is its multiple power options. It supports redundant DC input, which adds peace of mind in case one power source fails. Plus, the PoE-in capability means we can power it directly over Ethernet—super convenient when you're trying to minimize cabling or use existing PoE infrastructure. We’ve deployed this switch in switch mode to split ISP connections between dual routers, and it’s worked flawlessly. It’s compact, silent (passively cooled), and extremely reliable—ideal for both home labs and professional environments. If you need a small form-factor switch with serious performance and flexibility, this is a great choice. Highly recommended for anyone working with fiber uplinks or multi-router setups.
