After breaking the needle on my Coravin while sticking it into a bottle of wine, I realized something! These needles don't last forever. I also realized that my old needle was getting dull and it was requiring more effort to push down into the cork, so that's probably why it finally broke. The new needle is sharper than a tack and easy to insert. It was easy to install and fit my Coravin perfectly. Hopefully I'll get 2-3 more years out of this one, but doubtful since I am now using the Coravin a lot more.

I recently purchased the Coravin Timeless Standard Needle, and it has exceeded my expectations. This needle is a must-have for any wine enthusiast who enjoys preserving the quality of their wines over time. Standard Coravin needle. Good flow rate and sharp enough to puncture new and older corks. It can pass more sediment than the narrower vintage needle so slowly tilt your bottle and then hold the tilt for a few moments before you start the pour. I pre-buy a backup needle as soon as I replace one in use. So I have a spare on hand. I wasn’t paying attention and allowed the Coravin to go in at an angle bending my 3 year old needle.

This is my second replacement needle in 10 years. It fits my version 1 Coravin perfectly. It even comes with a small tool to clear the needle in case it gets clogged. 100% recommended.

I only got to use it like twice before it bent and was unusable. I’m really disappointed in the quality of this needle. I wasn’t applying any unusual force or at a weird angle, and it still failed. For a part that’s marketed as “durable” and designed for repeated use, this felt flimsy and cheaply made. It's even more unfortunate that there aren't alternatives when using a coravin. I wish someone else made cheaper versions of the needles that could be used with them. Given the cost of the Coravin and its accessories, I expected this needle to last for many bottles, not a couple of pours. It’s frustrating to have such a critical piece of the system give out so quickly, especially when replacements aren’t exactly inexpensive. For me, it completely defeats the purpose of investing in a premium wine preservation tool if the components don’t hold up under normal use.

The only thing I don’t like about Coravin is that once you have it, maintaining it is more expensive than the item itself. I am not particularly fond of companies that put their customers over a barrel and then bilk them for every last dime. I will continue to use the product until another option from a more customer friendly / customer loyal company becomes available.
