Blackmagic Design Video Assist 5 12G HDR

These new monitors from blackmagic (the 5 and 7 inch versions) are absolutely fantastic! They’re HDR screens which is fantastic with compatible cameras (I use it on my Ursa Mini Pro 12K which works wonderfully)!The brightness is insane! Indoors I usually have it at 30% or so depending on the light levels, and outside if you set it to 100% you’ll be fine with no sunhood on a sunny day, which is amazing! It’s also super quiet, the fans are never a problem! It looks gorgeously sharp, so it’s nice for focus pulling, and the colours seem pretty accurate for using as an on camera monitor for a DP too.The monitor cross converts between hdmi and SDI, and has a loop so you can connect a teradek transmitter to the monitor if you need, or something like a CineEye.Recording function is great, you can record blackmagic raw from certain cameras such as my Nikon Z6ii, which works amazingly! There’s USB C recording, or SD slots which is fine for more compressed BRAW recording so long as the cards are good quality. Blackmagic raw gives you so much more flexibility in post, as settings like iso and white balance become metadata that can all be changed.It’s a fantastic monitor, I’d highly recommend it!
