BaseQi Aluminum microSD Adapter for MacBook Air 13" and MacBook Pro 13"/15" (Non-Retina) Models

The product works as advertised. But some tips for a flawless experience: 1.) BaseQi produces different addapters for different computers. Is not One-Size-Fits-All. Therefore, this product will Work on 13"Airs but NOT on 11"Airs, or surfacebook or others. You have to read VERY carefully and select adequately. Efectively, the product sits flush and discrete on my MacBook Air 13" Early 2015. And It's easy on the eyes (i.e. It looks good) 2.) Some of the "Negative Reviews" state that the product may burn the MicroSD. While I find that hard to believe, just in case I tested it first with some Known Good MicroSD cards I do not care About (2GB) using AJA System Test. You know you have MicroSDs like those lying around between the sofa's cushions. Use them! 3.) All that testing also meant I had to insert and retrieve a couple of times. The "ToolLess" mechanism works as advertised (a fingernail is all I need, but YMMV). 4.) I used it, along with a 200GB U-3 MicroSD to move all my steam collection, and used a Symbolic Link. This is important because, if there were instabilities (i.e. the addpater disconected) the simlink would break, and that has not happened. Mind you, I haven't moved the machine around, but seems to be stable. Overall, quick and easy way to expand your storage without paying the high priced Apple charges for their PCI-e SSD. Just bear in mind that, even if you use any of the future V60 or V90 cards that are currently i the works, it will still be slower than the indernal drive. Specially for Writes. So, is best if the data here is Write once read a lot. Or write little read a lot (like, for instance, steam games ;-) ). End of Jul 2017 update: If the laptop goes to hybernation, the SD card disconnects. I believe this is more a problem of the OSX/MicroSD card combo, and not a problem of the adapter Per-Se. extracting and reinserting the adapter takes care of any issues, and since this is a tooless adapter, is pretty simple to do. If you get a different MicroSD (or an OSX Update works some miracle), this may not affect yu. Still a Great product.

This was everything I was hoping for. I'm a DJ and I needed a way to expand the internal storage of my MacBook Air without having to open it up or buy a more expensive version. This little gadget was the perfect answer to my first-world problem. I ordered a high capacity microSDXC card and put my whole DJ music collection on there and it's worked flawlessly ever since. The drive is always recognized upon booting up the laptop and the performance is perfectly fine for my needs (obviously that's mostly related to the brand/model of microSDXC card you use). Lastly, I love that it's aluminum and fits flush with the body of the Macbook. It looks like it was designed to be there. Lastly, it fits very snugly. That's a good thing as there's no fear of it falling out. I recently upgraded my microSDXC card to a higher capacity model and had to pull this thing out for the first time. After nearly destroying a credit card trying to pry it out, I decided to take a breath and pull out my iFixit tool kit and used the correct tool to easily pry it out (metal spudger). Go figure, the swap went perfectly with the right tool. This thing is the best.

I purchased this item to install in a 2012 MacBook Pro non-retina to provide some extra shared storage between the OSX and Windows 10 partitions. It took some doing to get the card reader working properly in Windows, but that is definitely not the fault of the adapter. I was able to get the adapter and microSD card recognized properly in both Windows and OSX but occasionally OSX will claim that the microSD card is not recognizable and offer to initialize it for me. I don't know where the fault lies but I then have to boot into Windows to scan and repair the card before it will be usable in OSX again. The card is formatted NTFS for compatibility reasons, and works fine 95% of the time. I have not experienced any data loss, just the need to "repair" the card in Windows on some occasions. 4 star rating instead of 5 star simply because I know I'm a rare use case, but this setup has provided me with some difficulties while using a standard SD card did not have any issues.

Great product. It came professionally, retail packaged. The insert is plastic but the finger pull side is metal. As you can see in the images it fits the Surface Book but protrudes a small amount. This is not the item BaseQi specifies for the Surface Book but it does work well as seen in the pictures below. BaseQi just came out with a model specifically for the Surface Book but it is not sold on Amazon at the time of this writing. I currently am using a Sandisk Extreme MicroSD card in this device and it does show in Windows 10 as a new/separate drive. If you have Windows 10 Pro you can use the included Bitlocker to encrypt the MicroSD card and have Auto-password on the bitlocker turned ON when you log into Windows. In this way you don't have to enter a password each time you access the MicroSD card and if someone were to remove the card then they would not be able to read it. This makes for a nice "2nd Drive" option for the Surface Series.

Works like a charm. Not sure of the continued effectiveness as I just installed it a week ago. It is not moved so it should stand up well. I am using it with a 512 GB micro SD in a 2018 MacBook Air. I have installed this product in at least four different MacBook Air laptops as the 128 GB SSD installed by Apple is woefully inadequate. Moved location of user files (documents, photos, etc.) to the micro SD and they are back in operation.

Had this for 6 months. It fits great and flushed to the body. However, like some of the other users, I started getting IO errors on the card. The only way for me to get the card mounted to my desktop again is to reboot the entire system. You can't just remove and plug it back in, hoping the OS would see it. The MicroSD works fine when I use a different adaptor. Apparently the BaseQi version is a hit or miss. If it worked like it should, then this would have been one of the best portable option to have for additional storage.

Works great, fits just a little bit hanging out for it to mount, but if you want it flush you can shove it in all the way. Make sure you use a swiss army knife or something similar to remove it if its is completely flush to the machine; You'll break your finger nail trying to take this thing out if you have it mounted flush to your computer, but overall its great for a clean looking backup/extra space solution on your Macbook. Also - macbook failed to mount this microSD card adapter when I initially inserted it. I took a compressed air duster to the port on my Macbook, and cleaned this adapter with a clean microfiber cloth and some glass cleaner solution. Mounted perfectly fine after this.

This is about the only proper way I've found to have a built in micro SD memory card installed on a MacBook Pro series laptop. Be sure to buy the correct version for your specific MacBook model. Although a little pricey it fits very well to compliment your MacBook Pro. When in place it is totally flush with the case so nothing can get damaged. Although my Macbook should accommodate an SDXC card the 128 Gb micro memory card I used only indicates 64 Gb for some unknown reason. It's identified as SDXC and exFAT format so maybe someone can tell me what's going on. I figured with exFAT format I could also use it in a PC if necessary. Construction is smooth and neat. Although it's flush with the case it can be removed with a fingernail.

Most MacBook air of the time had only a128GB SSD. That is abysmally small and hardly adequate. Apple is attempting to all users to get large subscriptions to iCloud as a money maker. I have been buying these and 512GB micro SD chips to create an “internal” drive for data. Works very well and is hardly visible.

Der Adapter passt perfekt in den SD-Karten-Slot und lässt sich auch gut wieder heraus nehmen. In meinem speziellen Fall habe ich dadurch die defekte Festplatte ersetzt und boote den Mac mit guter Performance von der Micro-SD-Karte.

大容量(〜1TB)でも動作しました。ちゃいなにしては安定していますが、一時期からの在庫切れだったり 急激な値段高騰に疑問が残ります。リピートしたくても躊躇します。
