I would let the boiling water cool before I put it into the glass jugs. **Q: Would the lid leak if I shook the jug?** A: Absolutely not! I am thrilled with this bottle. The cap has a pressurized seal and when the lid is barely tightened, it is water-tight and doesn't leak. I use this bottle for my MegaHome Water Distiller, to store my freshly distilled water in my refrigerator. I use a funnel inserted into the bottle opening so I can pour the distilled water into this glass container without spilling any on my counter. It is not a standard screw on lid. The black lid has an inverted bowl-like plastic device which ensures a leak-proof bottle when you use normal pressure to simply twist it shut. It does not require anyone to really tighten the lid real tight. **Q: Can I fill this with water and freeze it or will the glass break?** A: It is not recommended to fill the one gallon glass jugs with water & freeze them.
