Are the numbers loose or secure?

The numbers flip up and down but are secured to the game

How it is played . 2-4 players. Place all the number slats in the up position. Each player rolls the dice. The total of the dice allows you to knock down the slats that equal the dice total . Example: roll a 10 and knock down ANY combination that equals 10 . Once the numbers 7,8,9 are knocked down you have the option of using one die. When you can no longer knock down the total shown on dice/die , you stop playing . Player with fewest slats remaining up wins . It's a great game

Are the tiles on a rod or dowel, or are they loose?

The numbered "tiles" are on a metal rod. It gives smooth movement of the tiles. They are close, so I had to really look. But silver metal is seen between the tiles.

Does it come with a storage box?

It does not come with a storage box. Only the box it came in. Great game. Simple for all ages.
