For consumer safety we've air sealed all straw lids, so you just need to run the straw brush through the mouthpiece to break the seal before initial use. 2. If you've already broken the seal, sometimes the straw is positioned too close to the bottom of the bottle. One thing that bothers me quite a bit is, it's designed for left-handed people! You can't screw the top part in any way that doesn't result in the opening being a little on the right of the handle, so you need to be holding it with your left hand for the opening to align with your mouth. Also there's a part that controls how much water comes out at a time and it restricts the flow just a little more than I'd like.
